The Sram axle is stepped, which causes the nds bearing to take all the axial load, causing it to wear out quicker than the ds one.

How many km/ miles did you get out of 1 bb normally before it sounded like it had sand in the bearings instead of grease?

You can use a Shimano ht2 BB with a '22 to 24mm' adapter and a wavey washer on the driveside

Sram GXP bottom brackets also feel like planned obsolescence to me, although they're probably unintentionally badly designed.
The bearing on 1 side wears our after a few 100km and they still kept making gxp cranks for a long time.

Update on my post #7230 on the top of this page.
I bought a bb thread tap and could fortunately save the frame. I had to cut away quite some material... The previous owner probably forced a bb in there the wrong way around.
Bb cups sit nice and flush now, happy days.
