Any way to identify a rim with no decals? I've got a wheel with a campag hub but I'm not sure what the rim is. There's a clear sticker (that obviously once had some info) but nothing else I can see. It came with a bike I bought a few months back and was under the impression that both the hub and rim are campagnolo but didn't clarify this as it wasn't really a factor in me buying the bike or not. I haven't taken the rim tape off yet to see if there's any clues underneath. Any ideas anyone?

I'm considering buying a second hand frame on ebay but not sure about the size. Seat tube centre to top is roughly the same as my road bike (spec allez, fits me well) but the top tube is around 10cm shorter it's TT kind of geometry. I was thinking this is probably alright, do you reckon this will fit me?

Hi everyone, I'm trying to replace the bottom bracket on my MBK mistral. I'm not familiar with the design and don't know how to get it out. I've removed the cup from one side but the other doesn't look like it comes out as it's the cup goes the whole width of the BB shell. Any ideas how to get it out? There's no flats or any other clues as to what kind of tool I need to use. I've added a picture, hopefully you can see what I mean. Thanks

It could just as easily be the cable...
Are the derailleur and the shifter and cassette of the same brand?...
Thanks for the advice guys. I took the gear cable out and looked at all the housings and one was really badly cut with the metal wires bent over the hole. The guy I bought it off said something about adjusting the gears and obviously didn't do a brilliant job. Anyway, I cleaned it all up and fitted a new derailleur as the old one's cage was bent (and for £15 it seemed easier to just get a new one) and shifts are so much better now! Some fine-tuning to be done still but it changes with one click either way now without too much noise either. Just wanted to say thanks for the help and let you know how I got on.

Bought an item on ebay, as used but in good working order.
Sounds perfectly reasonable to me, though I wouldn't put it past the vendor to kick up a fuss. As long as you have the invoice/receipt for the refurb and some explanation why refurb was needed you should be fine even if they do. I think ebay has a system for dealing with issues like this and they decide who's in the wrong. It's their error for describing it as in good working order, what you've done is perfectly acceptable.

Are the derailleur and the shifter and cassette of the same brand?
Is the cable secured correctly - passing under the pinch bolt? (getting this wrong can affect the pull ratio) See eg point 2 of http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/techdocs/content/cycle/SI/2300/SI_5XA0A_001/SI-5XA0A-001-ENG_v1_m56577569830673817.pdf
When you shift into lowest gear (front and rear) how close is the upper jockey wheel to the largest sprocket? If there's a large gap, the b-tension screw may need loosening.
Are the Jockey wheels so old and worn that they flop from side to side excessively? If yes, replace, or dismantle and grind the steel cylinder bit slightly shorter.
Is the gear hanger (bit the derailleur is screw into) vertical or bent & twisted?
Is it just all grimy and in need of a good clean and fresh lubrication?First of all thanks for the reply, I'm very new to the site and it's nice to get some good advice.
It's a specialized allez 2010 and everything (groupset-wise at least) is standard except the freehub (which I hadn't even considered) because I replaced the rear wheel which was buckled beyond remedying by the previous owner.
In terms of adjustment, I've adjusted up the B-tension though the gear cable is a little frayed at the end (got two new ones coming in the post) so that could be an issue. They appear to have not been finished properly and the guy I bought it off said something about trying to adjust his gears and not getting it right. I had assumed it was just the cable tension that was the problem and I noticed the front derailleur was in the wrong place too.
She was pretty clean until yesterday! And the cables all seem to run smoothly enough. The hanger was OK but derailleur itself a little bent (very marginally though, it's hard to spot at all). I found both online nice and cheap so replacements are coming shortly. I just thought that the way it didn't move across enough could indicate a problem that won't be solved by replacing the mech so I don't want to have wasted my money replacing it as I only noticed this after I ordered them on monday. The derailleur seems in good order apart from that. I'll give it the once-over in line with your advice when I get home this evening. Thanks again!

It could just as easily be the cable. If the cable housing/liner ends haven't been finished properly, or if there's a kink in either a section of inner cable inside housing or a section of the cable housing, it could exhibit the symptoms you describe. If the bike was posted to you, a cable could easily have got kinked in transit due to poor packing.
I'll take a look in the morning and see what I make of it, hopefully an easy-fix! Thanks for the help.

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a new (to me) bike and I'm having a little trouble with my rear derailleur. It doesn't change gear easily, despite many attempts at adjusting it. The problem seems to be that it doesn't move far enough when you change in the opposite direction to the previous shift. So, for example, if you change down 3 times it moves across fine but if you then try to change up it doesn't move far enough to change to the next cog. The same happens in the opposite direction. I don't really know what to make of it but could it be the lever itself and not the derailleur? Any ideas?

For sale a set of Campagnolo Mexico 68 rims.
Front is on a Shimano Exage hub and the rear is unbranded. Front spins nicely, rear is okay but could probably do with a grease in the near future. Shimano 7 speed cassette and QR skewers included. Come with tyres but the front needs replacing.
I bought these a couple of months ago but they need to go to fund a new project. Haven't been used by me but were repainted and lacquered by the guy I bought them off.
Sorry the pics are poor as I've left my camera cable at home but you're welcome to have a look yourself. Will try to borrow a camera. I think these are fairly priced but if I'm off then let me know.
£55, pick-up from Stratford E15
