TBH, I never tried myself with .fit files since I never used the workout feature, but it works with all .gpx/.tcx I used. I normally create them in RideWithGps if that helps.

Yep. It puts it in the correct folder automatically according to the file type (.gpx, .tcx for courses or .fit for workouts).
