@anagrama you're absolutely right on the frame number front. I am quite convinced of what it is now :) The thing is I've seen good condition frames like this one for £140 and just a paint job is more than that so it's uneconomical otherwise i'd love to save it

Yeah well I have just heard back from dave yates on repairs...
"We can only give firm costs on inspecting your frame but guide prices would be £130 for a new seat tube (excluding any braze-ons) and from £168 for re-painting. It may well be possible to repair your existing seat tube, approx. cost would be £50. New forks are from £180. "
I absolutely do not have that kind of money, so I might just cut it up for my bamboo project anyway. -

yeah, the one I have is pretty crap, not suitable for me as the bottom bracket shell is an odd size and it is bent slightly. Probably not worth your while either tbh, I just thought I would mention it. I might see if ffm feels like posting but I doubt it, and I can't get to london!
