I want to read the law but haven't had a chance yet, presumably it's published in English in HK? Or if it's coming from Beijing then only in Chinese? If so I can translate it for you when I get a chance.
Totally forgot you have a holiday on the 1st (surprised we don't get one for liberating you!!). Enjoy your rum and coke and don't sing the anthem in a disrespectful way :(

I have no idea, it's really bizarre and the first time I've seen it here. 英里 is miles and I was staring at it for ages as the 英 is used in the word for "the UK" and also the words brave and hero... So when I saw it my first thought was "hero km?? wtf?" before I worked it out. Anyway I don't think I'm going to be much of a hero, dragging myself around a mountain in the rain for 20 anything.

Latest stupid challenge I have taken on is Julyathon - 31 days of running, need to tick off one 1km, one 2km, etc. I agreed to it before I did the maths and realised that it's 450km over the month. Guess it will keep me busy at least. About 10 of us are doing it, some virtually, if anyone else wants to join in then the more the merrier!

Definitely not a typo, unfortunately! The organisers have had to draw lots of maps explaining how far a mile is as most people don't really know. I guess I just have to run faster to finish before sunset.
Thanks for the tips, I'll look at getting a hand lamp too. I can always stash it in a pocket when I need both hands. Off to decathlon right now.....

Head torches... I'm doing a trail race this weekend that I thought was a nice casual 20km but turns out is 20 miles (we have never used the imperial system in this country so I'm not sure what that's about, other than confusing people). It starts at 3pm, has some chunky elevation, is forecast to absolutely pelt down with rain - and sunset is at 7pm, so I'm worried about finishing in the dark. So I need a head torch... what do I look for? I know nothing about head torches... help!

I'm in Shanghai, so things here are still normal. My colleagues in Beijing are all working from home again and anyone who's been to Beijing in the last 14 days is banned from our office building. I was actually planning to go to Beijing next month to see some friends but I guess that won't be happening now :( I'm considering stocking up on essentials in case things do go awry here again, though to be honest my idea of essentials is coffee, soju and crafts I'll never complete.

Other cities have been locked down for ages, and huge disruptive measures in place to protect Beijing (all flights diverted, even more massive police presence than normal) so for Beijing to be locked down is worrying. Friends there are just trying to carry on as normal if their housing compounds are open (so far only 27 locked down).
Spitting is "good for you" because having it inside you is bad, and why should they have to inconvenience themselves for other people? The mentality of this demographic is really quite appalling, even when I try to keep the reasons why in mind.

Re: gyms. Mine reopened back in March and at first every other machine was fenced off, showers were closed, pools closed, class numbers limited to 60%, masks needed... Then they opened all the machines, pools, showers, only instructors needed masks... Now the only thing is that we have to show our health code on the way in to the building and have our temperature taken, and some of the gyms won't put the air con on (this is quite common in summer here though, gah). The machines get wiped down but presumably with a damp rag and no Dettol or anything. I refuse to use the swimming pools as they're full of old people spitting. I also don't shower at the gym as I can't deal with the old people shouting at each other at the top of their voices in shanghainese.
Of course this may all change as we're about to have a second wave...
Atta boy! Do you have Strava or anything so I can give you meaningless kudos?
