@kjlem @Matisse I've known of that photo for a few decades now and still can't help but look at the distance between the saddle top and pedal and compare that with his crotch (his giant height doesn't come from overly long legs) and his trainers and it doesn't work out, not at that saddle height anyway.

@ltc To be honest I was dressed in my best 'Dad' wear and not in black joggers and trackie top with the hoodie up so it was only a polite interaction from them (and fair play actually).
@swampie noted, it was just a new padlock I had in the garage and closest to hand for the photo, I do have an old one somewhere with the closed shackle which will do a better job. -

Cheers, I didn't have the balls to rock up and grind through the chain without the crime number to back me up, and the padlock was totally blown apart with rust so couldn't be picked for a more discreet removal. As it happens, 2 people did come up to me whilst I was mid grind but were happy to leave me to it when I flashed the card.
And to top it off, I cut the chain near the padlock and made myself a nice new chain with a bit of inner tube around it 😄 -
My post from a month ago had a happy easy ending. I popped into the police station and said I didn't have any more proof it was my property but I wanted to inform them I was going there with a cordless disc cutter and would be retrieving it. The nice lady on the desk said hold on I'll write you a crime number card so if you're questioned you won't get into trouble!!
Of course the bike had suffered but it was superficial and it's already primed ready for a repaint and rebuild with an old school twist.
My boy's happy. -

Any advice on taking back my sons stolen bike that I've found locked up? Back in the Summer whilst at a park it was nabbed whilst we were over the other end of the park. I didn't get the police involved as I didn't lock it etc.. fast forward to yesterday and I found it padlocked up, obviously unused for some time. What is the procedure here? It was purchased from ebay some time ago so no proof it's mine, it looks worse than it is, and I can resurrect it, my lad REALLY wants it back....
