@Jezston -thanks for that - i'll keep an eye out
-7.8 degrees up here + freezing fog + road closure adding 2k to route + frozen thumb ends + frozen mist on glasses = awesome commute today - things to keep you on your toes means you forget how long it takes to ride in ;-)

since when does riding in the right hand side of the lane with your arm out indicating right mean a car can still overtake you on an empty fekin road at 6.15am cos (s)hes in a hurry and revving the engine to the max means "i have right of way so stop turning mr.cyclist"
knobwent from a nice 2degrees at the start down to -1.9 at the end. local climate change! ;-)

...already getting bored on very dark commute (80K) - wondering about playing some of this popular music" ... so :
a) phone holder on bike music from the phone's speaker (its waterproof)
b) bone conductor headphones (allows background noise)
c) single earpiece headphone (right ear free for cars)
?
actually is it possible to learn a language while riding a bike? -

Deer are spooky when they just sit on the side of the road watching you as you glide by.........
...warm from where i started out, then got progressively colder towards the city , frosty paths but no ice - my 25mm contis (90psi) seem to be giving me plenty of grip - touch wood!!! wind was low today, so 1h32m in.
ordered a bioracer winter jacket on offer (69quid) with pixel100 technology.
i've been using a Sugoi ZAP waterproof reflective jacket this year and its been a sweat fest due to the milder temperatures than normal - even with a ss jersey underneath - year before when we have -10 spells it was perfect.
hoping the bioracer is more breathable for days where no major rain forecast - can always baselayer underneath it too.
would not ride these unlit country roads without major refletiveness to the jacket! -
slowly Little Princess is getting used to being out in the back garden, although the past few frozen days has seen her (now) happily using the litter tray and straight under the duvet - hmmm - hopefully she will get used to the new environs soon so we dont have to shovel her peep and poops every day (or smell it!)

Add-E = solution to my 80k round trip commute woes when windy?
-
I use a very light head torch zip tied that means i can control flash or beam easily and it rotates backwards and switched to red as a rear backup. I also have runners foot light clip on my shoes set to flash giving a up and down movement when pedalling and some side light from it too. Both these last forever on AAA batteries and watch batteries

is there any such thing as an eBike with drop bars?
I quite like the look of those "all in one wheels" but many dont have range nor decent quality.
the "neatest" or "clean" solution are the latest ones that are just a replacement wheel + bottle battery, and you use your phone/app for configuration/control....but they are upwards of 1000quid for 25mile range.... -
thanks for the encouragement
i know what your about to say about 1 route -it has to be all the same route every day - so it does get boring - its the same route i did for my 50K return, but just a long 14k hill added on at the start/end now as i moved further away.what do you have for breakfast ??? EPO ;) ;) i cant stomach food early in the morning and before a ride it always sits heavy....

nononononono i was doing 50K 4 days a week, but this 80k business is a different kettle of fish, it includes another climb, and it pushes me from 50mins for 50K to 1h30(1h45 in windy conditions) which means i'm needed food/energy on the ride that i did not have to think about before! :( i'm currently doing it once a week with 3 times on the stinky bus.
perhaps i need an ebike ;) -

so after a full Saturday of us being in the back garden, our little Princess watching us from behind the window, we decided to let her out on Sunday for her first walk-a-bout. lasted about 30mins - i think we were more scared than her, she had a good sniff about, lots of talking and after 30mins grabbed her back and put her back in the house - she seems ok with it all, might give it another go mid week with a view to a longer time out this friday when we are both at home all day...............

i'm a bit worried about the right thumb - should it still be sore after thawing out 3 hours ago?
