I hope this project hasn't gone quiet!
I'll bump it along with a mention of these brakes which apparently have been fitted to some bromptons, the TRP 925.
http://www.trpbrakes.com/category.php?productid=1031&catid=182They look quite nice and are side pull, avoiding some of the problems of the Brompton original bottom pull or alternative top pull calipers. They also have long reach, especially the front model which is designed to sit behind the fork on a normal frame.
I suspect there are all of the usual problems with bolts / lengths / recessing... and I don't think they'll play nice with mudguards...
oh well... those Brompton calipers aren't so bad, are they now? ;-)
Any pics or blog entries of this being done?

Ok, SOOOooooo...
...looking at my Brompton again in the sun, I'm really starting to think that it will be impossible to match the colour with anything titanium. It's more of a golden green then a grey.
So that means that I think a Black seatpost and handlebar are in order.
For handlebars, I'm thinking this Nitto straightbar might be good.

I went down to Tokyo fixed yesterday and found that it was slightly shorter than the current bar. I'm not sure if that will work with the bar ends that I am considering (the fold may be problematic), so my ingenious plan is to buy the grips and then buy a piece of dowel to test the fold.
Here is the seatpost I'm looking at getting:

In other news I ordered the brass clamps yesterday; they should be here in 10 or so days. I also ordered the carbon fibre tape for my mudguards.

So I got a reply from the Ebay Extended Post seller:
*Dear will.a.e,
Hi,
The titanium tubings are produced in the US, and welded and finished in Asia.
The length of the seatpost is 60cm from the bottom of the seatpost to the saddle rail clamp. See attached photo.
Please see attached photo comparing the finish of the Ti seatpost and the steel seatpost.

Yw. Tbh i dont think any ti finish ive seeen will be a match to that frame. It could still look great but it will be hard to find a good matching tone.. Brushed will be brighter for sure even if its been left unbuffed for awhile. Id still think thats your best bet tho.
Your frame seem to have more of a brown/yellow tone vs titaniums greyish tone in various degrees. Perhaps thats just a photo illusion tho.
Hmm, that is a shame. The old Brompton Titanium posts had a blueish hue to them:

http://kleinanzeigen.ebay.de/anzeigen/s-anzeige/brompton-titan-titanium-sattelstuetze-seatpost/79629561-217-3124This looks like a good picture to show the difference (this pic is actually on page 3 of this thread) (just about to send the owner a PM):

Thanks for the tips Bjorn
Here is the colour I'm looking to get close too:
http://s342.photobucket.com/albums/o421/williameakin/Brompton/Also, it isn't a great picture, but you can see the contrast between the current seatpost and the frame here:

As for the gripshift over the thumb shift, here is the other option:

EEI
12" wheels! HTFU Indeed!
Bromptons have 16" wheels. Or were you referencing something else?
Having never ridden a Brooks, I was concerned about the extra weight and the comfort when carrying it. Looking at the Swallow saddle though, it's about 150grams heavier than the current saddle; the same weight if I were to buy the titanium version...
Do I really need that kidney?Hugo
Not a fan of the grips huh? :-) I dunno. Think they will look good fitted and be practical too.
The seatpost listed is indeed black. I could also get a shim and fit a carbon seatpost if someone makes one that is long enough

But I really think that I want a grey steel looking one, so a grey coloured titanium is probably the best option. That means that I'll need similarly coloured straightbar too...As for the drivetrain, I'm just 'humming and harring' over the drivechain gearing. At the moment I have a +15% (54 tooth) chain wheel, 3 speed, which I find quite good. First gear is actually useful in this guise, middle is just under what I ride my Fixed Gear around London with and Top gear is great for flats and small declines. If I were to move to a hilly area (Sydney, Australia for example), I would probably go for the SA 8 Speed as the 3 speed there would probably get a bit tiresome. I'm also considering touring through Asia with it, although I am thinking that if I do do that, I might invest in a BikeFriday or a Airnimal. It's there for posterity as much as anything...
BlueQuinn, you sure it will work? When I was referencing the gripshift, I was wondering if it would work with the current IGH on the stock Brompton. Any ideas on that one?

So I've scanned through this thread and it seems that there are a couple of custom titanium framebuilders in London or close by.
I'm not interested in a whole frame, but I am interested in a seatpost and straight bar for my new Brompton.
Do you think that any of the framebuilders would be interested in forging them?
My issue with the titanium option isn't just the cost, it's the aesthetic.
My knowledge of titanium parts is next to nothing. Does anyone know how/why/ease it is to get a specific shade of titanium? I've seen everything ranging from stainless steel in colour to what looks like a metallic blue sheen. That isn't just the photographer, is it?
I'd just go any buy an aftermarket Brompton extended seatpost off ebay (I've seen one just crop up for sale), but I'm concerned it will be too chrome like against the rest of the raw steel look of the bike, rather than the drab grey I would be hoping for.Be interesting to hear some peoples opinions.

Thanks. Should have thought of that!

So at the moment, I'm deciding upon whether or not I should get a plain black seatpost and straightbar to match the wheels, or really go for it with the $ and get a titanium seatpost and straightbar.

Any ideas? Costs? 200 - 250 pounds? I'm going to post this on the titanium bike thread and see what people think.
What cranks are you using there? How is the chainline and Q factor?
