I'm quite eager to get the other half out on some rides.
I think something light with relatively decent wheels but flat handlebars would probably best suit, but I'm struggling to find anything "off the peg".
Right now, I'm thinking it might be best to hunt out a second-hand road bike and convert the handlebar set up.
Does that seem like a sensible plan?

Thnaks a lot for the links - good info on the subject. -
Wouldnt having wider rims give more inner volume , so youd need more psi ?
i remember a thread on here about the A23's needing more psi because of the increased volume.
Thanks John. Reckon you're right. Wanted to get some ideas first, but I'll have a play around. Regarding volume and psi, I think it's a case of more air but less psi. -

Actually, I've found a useful thread here:
http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php/779686-Inflation-pressure-for-wider-%2823mm%29-rims
This seems to suggest that on a rim like the A23, a 23mm tyre measures 25mm and so you should use 25mm in the calculator I reposted above.
(I make that 70 front, 110 rear, - think I'll go a bit higher on the front, 80 perhaps)
(Also, thanks for the mergatron - hadn't seen this thread before)

Can anyone help with tyre pressures please?
I weight approx 95kgs and previously I've ridden with the max rated PSI of whatever tyres my bike's sporting at the time.
I've just ordered some new wheels with wider rims which I understand will let me ride with lower PSI for similar rolling resistance.
I've been shown this calculator on here before:-
http://www.dorkypantsr.us/bike-tire-pressure-calculator.html
(Which suggests 85 for the front and 125 for the rear)
And I've been recommended to check out the table on Sheldon Brown's site, but I can't find the table.
My problem is that these do not seem to allow for consideration of wider rims.
Can anyone help work out what sort of PSI I should be aiming for?

Fucking omnishambles.
Calling that Griepel was sprinting for 4th after the whole world has just watched the entire breakaway group cross the line.
Muppets.
Yeah, while Phinney looked utterly distraught actually coming in fourth. They really did miss just about everything.
I actually thought with 500m to go that they were going to keep the cameras on the chasers. Suppose we should be grateful we were actually shown the winner crossing the line.

Coverage is utterly without merit - no times, no graphics, commentators thinking our sprinter's leading the peloton, complaining about getting no info, or replays mikes picking up more cameramen coughing and background PA system than useful commentary, cameras cutting out, sound cutting out, odd choices of cameras from the editors.
Absolute wank.

Opening sequence was stunning. My favourite part was the tribute to the NHS and GOSH, Danny Boyle has gone up a few notches in my admiration for him.
So sad to see how Parkinson's disease can break down even the most magnificent of men.
Damn straight. NHS was a fabulous fuck-you to HMG. Lovely reminder that at times there's a bit of power to the people. -

Thanks for the advice. I reckon poping in is the best bet.
Garnett, in what sense do you consider that wheelset an "upgrade"?
It's a definite upgrade from the knackered Bontrager Select wheelset apparently due for imminent failure that I have on there at the moment. It's also an upgrade insofar as there weren't any negative comments about them on the Road Wheel Recommendations? thread.
Would you have gone for the Open Pro/105s then?

I've booked my 7 year old bike in for a full service, priced at £105.
I've not used the bike shop but the mechanic seems very competent. He's full until next Friday so he said he'd have a quick look over it this morning just to see what might need seeing to, and quickly discovered that I needed new wheels. Not surprising as they're the original set, but just in case, he showed me how concave the rims were and said they were gone.
He quoted me £235 for a set of Mavic Open Pros on Shimano 105 hubs (to match my groupset) and said he'd fit them as part of the service, which is fair enough I think as the service is supposed to include a full break down and rebuild.
Now, I've been thinking about upgrading the wheels anyway, and I've seen some Velocity A23s on Miche Primato hubs for about £25 more.
Is it an absolute no-no to now order the A23s, and either:-
a) take them in and ask that he fit them as part of the full service (preferable, but more cheeky); or,
b) have a go at swapping my old cassete over from the old wheelset myself and then riding the bike in and asking for him to check out the wheels as he would have done as part of the service anyway?
Thanks for any advice.

Possibly a bit of a long shot, but does anyone have any recommendations on where to get a decently tailored OTP tweed jacket?
I've often seen decent-looking stuff in Ede and Ravenscroft, and that'll probably be my first port of call, but I'd like to try out a few tailors before buying.
