hello Forumers,
So, the time is nigh for me to start assembling my ultimate dad mobile. All the parts are acquired, the wheelset is on its way from SPA and my 60cm pink Kepler pre-order from Brother will ship in a fortnight. My new garden workshop lockdown project is watertight and finished enough to use, and so I'm going to get this thread rolling now so you can all advise me on the many stages which will no doubt cause me trouble as a relative newbie to geared bike builds...
The parts list is as follows...
60cm pink Kepler frameset
Cane creek 40 headset
Fizik 100mm stem
Surly Moloko bars
gum quan grips
misc black seatpost
Fabric scoop saddlewheelset:
Kinlin XR31 rims
sapim spokes (front 32H rear 36H)
rear 105 thru axle
front Shutter Precision hub
WTB venture gumwall 700x40c tubelessdrivetrain & brakes:

SLX 11-46T cassette
M8000 11 speed chain
SLX callipers and levers, pre cabled brakeset
Deore centre lock rotors
XT PD-T8000 pedalsExtras:
Thule Yepp rear rack
Thule Yepp maxi rack mounted child seat
Surly Nice Rack front rackI'll get some exciting pics of my parts bin up in a couple of days...
but the first bit of help I need to ask for... Do any Lewisham/SE based forumers have a) a bike stand I can loan for a couple of weeks b) a headset press tool I can loan for a couple of days? In exchange for your generosity I have this almost untouched case of very fruity Will Sark beers available to trade!
Welcome pointers:
any compatibility issues I've overlooked?
best dynamo lights that also have a USB out?
best XT-compatible SPD shoes that I can also wear off-bikeUnwelcome pointers:
"Why did you buy that when I prefer this" etc...THANKS!

Interesting...I wasn't aware of the Tripster, or Kinesis at all.
It looks like it has a lot of great features and practical goodery. Cable routing is cool and the adjustable fork sounds, interesting? but at the risk of sounding like a superficial aesthete, its fugly as hell!
It's also a 100-150 quid more than a Straggler/Kepler. plus the cost of respray...

Just to clarify, I would love obviously not just literally bin it, but it's possible (and been suggested by some on here) that I won't have my import duty waived unless I have the frame either shipped back or destroyed... Although I don't know how they would ever verify if it was destroyed or not.
That's means I'd be in for 129 quid to even own the damaged frame, before I do anything with it

Some of you may have enjoyed my bent Straggler import story. For whatever reason I've always wanted a Surly gravel/commuter/tourer, and in recent years I've been fixated on a straggler as I want something a bit sexier than a LHT.
But it seems like somebody out there really doesn't want me to have one! I've been battling supply issues and then one has finally arrived to me all mangled. More on that here....
So now that Brother have launched their new Keple pre order today and their new colour is sparkle pink (very similar to the straggler I've been listing after) I'm considering getting one of those...
Price is essentially the same, they're pitched as the same sort of bike, the new Kepler has through axles which is a bonus (haven't had wheel built yet so that's fine).
Anyone else got any input on important differences?
Thanks

Well, for anyone who is interested, I met with brothers Vahrona this morning, awesome workshop and lovely, knowledgeable blokes.
I'm looking at complete replacement of drive side stays as Winston said he may also replace the non-driveside chainstay, as it's his belief that surly's crimping of the chain stays to allow for tyre/chainset clearance is what made the bend possible... So 270 for the repair...
(He did bend it back out in order to see if both sides were bent or just one, so I now could technically get a wheel in there and ride it, but he didn't think it would last long that way)
Then for Mario upstairs to respray is another 150...
Then, and this is the real clincher is think, these guys are so good (aka busy) that I'm looking at a couple of months... And 420 quid... On a 650 frame
All of this and then the import duty issue still outstanding, I'm probably going to bin the frame.
Which leads me to my next debate. Find another Straggler, or settle for a Kepler. But I'll start a new thread for that!
