New project: Bianchi S.A.S.S. (Shiny Ass Single Speed)

Bought frame ++ today. Rear wheel is a sun ringle rim to surly new hub with WI freewheel, need to procure a reasonably mathcing front. Thinking I'll go all black parts, but will need to spread the purchases out a bit. First priority is a wheel so I can test it out. Also got brakes -- Hope Mono 4 with some enormous disks -- and pedals -- Time Zxx -- today. Looking forward to trying something other than a road bike!

Thanks :) The bag cost me £4 at the local Salvation Army store. Initially had it hanging from the handlebars, then got that rack off of ChrisMSG, but puzzled for a while about fastening. Found a strip of aluminum siding (or something) on my way home one day that serves as support on the back (mounted inside the bag, fixed using strips), and the front is tied down using strips around an old, broken aero-spoke bent up at the ends, likewise sitting inside the bag. Carried the 5D used to take those pics today, will mostly carry clothes and food on longer rambles.

Pinarello has now been converted back into gears, but has also been adapted more extensively to allow riding longer distances on gravel and in mixed weather:

Cranks are still DA7700s, now with 53/39 SRAM chainrings, shifted by Ultegra front der. (for now). Rear wheel is a NOS Mavic GP-4 CD rim laced to a WI Aft-tracker hub with ultegra 9sp cassette (hill-friendly 11-21 gearing) shifted by DA7700 rear der., made to match front WI ti-hub to CX18 CD rim. DT shifters are also 7700, handlebars have been lifted a little with a Nitto Tech.Delux stem. Other notable additions: Nitto M18 front rack with DIY Lowepro (made in Ireland)(camera-) front bag, Zefal HPX frame pump, Zefal fenders for shitty weather (which are surprisingly good), big fat TUFO tub up front and slightly less fat (and controversially green) Vittoria Pave CG tub at the rear.

Continuing in the outside(r) track, I had fun speeding along loose/hard-mix gravel roads in the mountains this past week: up front I just managed to squeeze in a Tufo Diamond D28 cross-tyre (1 mm clearance), but sadly the rear brake bridge would not allow for this, so mounted the trusted Specialized Espoir on the back. The Tufo did amazingly on the gravel, plenty of control, soaked up pretty much anything (rocks and washboards, had it at around 70-80 psi), and allowed for quite hard breaking on loose gravel before skidding. The rear did not fare so well, developing a very localized but highly pronounced bulge (looked like the casing had torn inside the rubber thread, allowing the tube to push out) which started to rub on the brake. Had to drop pressure to maybe 20-30 psi just to let the wheel spin freely -- worked as long as i was on gravel, killed my legs when I continued on asphalt. Considering switching back to clincher on the rear, looking for something with a little thread that will just fit to continue gravel adventures.
tl;dr: the Tufo D28 is an awsome gravel tub for road bikes! (and it's seriously cheap from cyclecomponents.se)

^^ Sweet! I'd be interested in one of these. ^ With that you have all the problems with traditional threaded cogs stripping, and double up at that (both the cog and the disc could strip).
