Has anyone tried the Uniqlo HeatTech stuff as a base layer or under a jacket?>
agree with the other comments. great for city riding, anything with not too much sweating. i've not found it the best for long training rides.
that said i wear it virtually every day for kicking around the house in or as a vest type thang under a shirt/polo to keep my little weak frame warm in winter. great value too.

the apparent fix was:
1) the thread on the bolt was a bit chewed up (maybe caused by me trying to tap it down when the expander bolt was stuck in in the first place). with it removed i slowly worked the thread through the expander nut while holding that in place with some mole grips.
2) lubed the thread on the bolt and threaded up/down the nut to help reduce friction
3) cleaned the outside of the expander nut to ensure there was no grease on it to maximise chances of it biting the inside of the stem
4) tapped the expander a little inside the stem before assembling to ensure it got some purchase to start with.
seems to have worked once. will need to try to remove/reassemble a couple of times to avoid a foreign ride fail!

My stem has been giving me all sorts of issues. Probably not helped by the fact that I'm mechanically dyslexic.
After finally getting it out of the headset (it was tight as a nuns chuff) i'll be buggered if i can get it in and tightened up again....

When I put it back in the headset and try to tighten it up, i get no resistance. In other words the lickle bit at the bottom spins round as i try to tighten. I tried giving it a little tap up into the stem before I push that back in the headset but i just either keeps spinning or forces the quill stem too wide to go back in the headset.
Any ideas?

I'm riding long distance fixed rides (48-18 with two brakes) reasonably regularly. Here's an average weeks riding:
- 2 daily commutes of circa 25km each way
- 1 session on the wattbike bike i the gym
- 1 weekend ride of 100-150km
I've been doing similar mileage geared for a few years so am used to the time in saddle/distances.
Since stepping up the weekend rides i've developed lower back pain (usually on my hip bone sits a knot) as well as more recently pain in my glutes. As well as dull aching pain it feels like I can never stretch it out quite enough.
Stretching my hammies and glutes twice a day seems to help.
Is there anything else I can do to try and alleviate the discomfort in the first place?

My longest ride to date on the fixie is 125km. Been regularly knocking out >100kms at weekends over the last couple of months. I could go longer but have been so short of time lately. Hopefully I'll start to get the odd longer ride in soon.
I recently switched to 48x18 which feels a lot better suited to my little legs!
That audax looks good. May well be up for it.
@funkt: what sort of mileages have you been getting in?

bump!
