Not all carbon is equal. There's a thread over at weight weenies that has a similar story of the fork failing drastically after a very short period of time, looks to be the same frame from the photos.

I'm sure a lot of the cheap chinese carbon parts are fine, but there will always be someone willing to cut corners in order to make a few more dollars.

Stop while you're ahead, once you start scratching around for a few grams you often end up making the bike worse even though it's lighter. Red rings are heavy for a reason, light ones flex when you change up, and the Red front mech doesn't need any more bendiness in the system.
What are you using to adjust the headset? There's scope for cutting weight, improving aesthetics and maintaining practicality with something like this
I've realised that it's quite easy to end up spending more money than is really necessary and making the bike not quite as functional. I was running a 7900 front mech because it was fractionally lighter than the Red one, but it didn't shift as crisply. 20mm deep tubs were a consideration for a while, but I'm sure they would feel noodly in comparison and I'm hesitant to trust tubs for general riding.
With regards to the rings it would be a toss up between Stronglight CT-2s or Sram Red Black rings, both are a similar weight and have a good reputation.
I've got an Extralite Ultrastar 2 fork bunk which weighs 7g so I can't go any lighter there. I'll be pairing it with a Smud ahead cap (4.5g with alu bolt) when it arrives.
Whilst I agree that the logos on the Bontrager stem are far from beautiful it's certainly not a heavy stem, once I swapped the bolts to ti it was sitting just below 110g. The weight weenie alternatives seem to come with reduced stiffness or a 26mm clamp.
One day I'll get round to removing the logos from everything.

this is lovely. Proper stealth porn.
How did you get the stickers off the rims? I have a mind to do something similar...
If you look carefully the logos are still on the rims, they're a ghosted graphic which seems to be under the clearcoat. If you've got carbon rims with stickers than can't be peeled I'm not sure how good an idea it is to take sandpaper/carbolift to them.
Oh man, that giant is shit hot
I hate GIANT, but BMXED you bike is proper porn.
Congrats, it's brill.LOVE that Giant...
Thanks.
It's lighter than my bike, he must be cheating.
You'll be happy to know it should get a bit lighter soon. I've got some parts on the way from Smud Carbon, and trimming the steerer tube will take 20+ grams off.
I might look into getting some Powercordz or i-link cables, though my Gore Ride-On cables work perfect for the time being. I think it could do with some black chainrings for aesthetic purposes. -

I've made a few changes to my Giant:
- Veloflex Master tyres
- Bontrager Race XXX Lite stem with ti bolts
- Sram Red front mech
- Bebop Stainless pedals
- Extralite Ultrastar 2 fork bung
- MT Zoom bottlecage
- Ti bolt, KCNC yoke and some time with a hacksaw and file for the seatpost
- Tiny magnet glued to spokes
- And a general tidy up (cleaned drivetrain, retaped bars, lubed cables)
It now weighs 6.22kgs (13.71lbs).
I'll trim the steerer tube once I'm sure it's not too low, it feels good so far.

Post any cool cycling related memorabilia you've accumulated over the years.
Whether it's headbadges, posters or just something bike related.I'll start the thread off with this transo-GRIP shop display sign.

During a refurbishment at my LBS I found this in the attic under a thick layer of dust. I'm not sure how long it had been up there but along with it was a Coloral Bottle Display (Coloral Bottle) with a few bottles attached, unfortunately I didn't get to keep them aswell.
The internet doesn't seem to offer me any information about this company, but it's nice to have a unique bit of cycling history. -

Nice x-ray. As long as the stitches are neat it doesn't really matter what's inside.
They don't like to operate on the extremities due to increased risk of infection, you don't get a great flow of freshly oxygenated blood in your feet. I was told they would only remove my metalwork if it was causing a problem.

It's got harder to find decent rats and beaters.
