A little delay here (sleep is necessary eventually) but more pics of the tubing are here, and I'll take plenty more more in any case.
I'm fascinated by the oval tubing too. I know about 531 and all that, but Columbus were adventurous where Reynolds played safe, it seems to me.
It's quite a sophisticated frame when you look close, and I bet, very strong where it needs to be.
If you look at the tubing in profile it appears to taper from front to back. (or from above it's the opposite) It obviously doesn't, the oval just twists along the length and makes it look like that.
Same with the down-tube.Will post some pics of the damaged rear end below. Wasn't being shy, just wanted to show its good points first: )
It needs 2 chain-stays and one seat-stay, but it's getting a pair of each, because they come in pairs anyway. Question is, who can do it best?
More pics of damage & oval lugs on Photobucket. Will add many more as I progress.

Thanks for the welcome both: )
Have no idea about how the frame came to be damaged, but one way or another it will be sorted.
The tubing is available, (and on the way) but not the lugs seemingly.Frame repairs I'm open to advice on. I've used Bob Jackson before with my Holdsworth LQ but I'm not sure with this one. Might be good to use somebody with some experience with this type of frame. I'm in Gloucester so it'll have to be shipped, and if it wants shipping it might as well go anywhere where the fitting is good: ) Argos is too expensive at £350 for a rear triangle IMHO.
Yours is very nice! What's the model and tubing? Must be close to mine agewise.
They are certainly few and far between and mine was a pure accidental find.Their current stainless steel frames are very nice to my innocent eye!
Will check your link after this.
Many thanks. -

Found this a week ago knowing nothing previously about Italian steel.
Has Columbus Max tubing. Ellisse Orientate, with the rotated oval tubing.Amazing frame/forks and quite rare apparently.
Anybody know anything about it?
All I know is Simoncini is a small Italian maker from Tuscany and this is post 1987. Probably much later with (mostly) Campy Mirage 9 speed components.Great on detail and sophisticated tubing. Simoncini is engraved on head, fork crowns and BB.
More pics to follow anon.
Needs new chain-stay as is obvious to close observers!
Got 2 ordered... -
Oil in 3/4 speed hubs will exit all over your spokes and rim if you overdo it. Sturmey Archer recommend you add a few drops per month! Makes a mess and you get no brakes.
You need a thinnish oil and when you get used to it the sound will tell you when its working right. Friction shifters are chancy because the SA triggers are indexed. You have a sweet spot between top and middle and if you miss it you suddenly get no drive. Can be painful if you are honking. Get a proper trigger. They don't cost much.

Aluminium forms an oxide on its surface when exposed to air. Aluminium Oxide. *
BUT* no frame is pure aluminium, it'll be one of various alloys.I always fancied copper plating a steel frame. (Very easy to do with copper sulphate)) Which will turn green if you dont protect it from air/oxygen: ) But varnish it and it should be OK..... Maybe.

More pics:
This one shows the vertical ovals at the head-tube.
At the other end of both tubes is an oval 90degrees rotated to make the best, big area joint.
The oval joints in the fork crown are more camouflaged, but still there.
