For solid colours, Tekaloid enamel. Takes a while to fully cure because it's an enamel but it sprays well, excellent coverage, REALLY sticks and is really glossy.
Halfords satin black is actually fine because it's cellulose rather than acrylic, but it's a bit cheaper to get trade spray cans on eBay.
Silver or white on a budget, check out car wheel paint in trade spray cans. Covers well and it's tough.
I don't have a recommendation for metallic or custom colours in a can, though. I'd also like to know! I just like to steer folks away from wasting their time (and quite a lot of money) on Halfords paint.

I got scarlet fever a couple of years ago immediately after a dose of real flu and ended up off work for about 3 weeks. Not a lot of people believed I caught something that basically nobody has had since about 1687. I had 3 GPs come in to have a look.
Penicillin is amazing though. I went from covered in heavy red rash and rapidly decomposing to my death, to looking perfectly fine in the space of about 48 hours!

My old 10 mile each way commute was flat, so I'm going to say no anyway, but it took me no difference in time whether I rode my sub 9kg geared bike, my Russian track bike or my 14kg 1930s fixed gear BSA. What I will say is that commuting is hard on bikes (locking up, getting bashed around, pot holes, crashing, hit by cars etc) and a heavier bike is usually a bit tougher than a weight weenie. For me, the bike's endurance and comfort became far more important than weight.
