whats the go to reccomendation for a budget shimano 10spd compatible 32h rear clincher wheel (or wheelset)? Needs to be relatively durable as the guy thats asked me to look for him regularly rides with panniers (he's about 75kg). I've never really looked for shimano compatible wheels previously so didnt know if theres a factory built set to point him towards. First thoughts were Open Pro to Ambrosio Zenith but i think that might be more than he wants to spend

Had last week off so its been one long weekend. Cycled London to Brighton on the Monday which was relatively uneventful with the exception of my friend being stung on the lip by a wasp. Stopped for a few in Craft Beer Co at the end to help him numb it. Rode from London to BSE on Tuesday which took quite a lot longer than expected as we followed the canals from E2 all the way out to Harlow. The canal paths were slow going but we picked an amazing day for it.
The rest of the week we did some slightly shorter routes around Suffolk & Northamptonshire. This was in place of a planned trip to the south of France and i have to say i've really enjoyed cycling around England in the sun

I quite enjoyed my fenland experience at the weekend but wouldn't want to ride it regularly, the wind doesn't half whistle across it
It was the road between Isleham and Prickwillow that made me feel particularly morose. Flat, overcast & straight into the wind, its been ages since i've been riding my bike somewhere and just wished i was doing something else. It all picked up again once i headed down to Newmarket.

Rode out to Ely for the first and last time on Saturday. Hadn't thought through how mind numbingly flat and boring the area would be to cycle through and riding directly into a headwind didnt help. Stopped at the cathedral for a banana and headed down towards Newmarket

my googlemapped route sent me along the river, over some fairly dodgy surfaces and straight into a roadblock
The route began to get more interesting as i headed south and some 'hills' around Newmarket were a breath of fresh air after rolling through the featureless wasteland that is the fens. The sun came out and I finished up at 68 miles having found quite a few little country pubs that i'll be looking to go visit as soon as i can

Thanks all. Will take some more photo's when the sun come back out.
Have done a few miles on it now so i can confirm it rides like a dream, the wider rim and veloflex master combo in particular is great. The white mark on the front rim seemed to be caused by something in the stock brake pad, have switched them to swissstop greens, the mark has gone and theres no visible wear to the anodising (as you'd expect after a few hundred miles)
I'd thought about switching the cranks out for 53/39 as the groupset id bought came with compacts but i've found myself using the 34 tooth ring a fair bit (11-25 on the rear)
Hadn't heard Serotta were closing down, sad news

Managed 33 miles through pretty suffolk villages on saturday in the only time i had free between hangover and girlfriend duties. Rode from BSE to Cambridge and back yesterday evening. Quite a pleasant evening with the exception of a Bee flying into a helmet vent and putting the fear of god into me, followed by a wasp stinging me on the head a couple of miles later.

I'd have gone with a black groupset if I hadn't already had the alloy Athena groupset waiting for a frame as discussed on the last page. Having said that, I'm really happy with the way it's turned out so no real regrets there at all.
As for hubs, absolutely no complaints so far but they've only really been round the block so far, so there shouldn't be any yet anyway. Was very close to going with record hubs but the lack of choice for spoke count and the fact that they only come in black were the deciding factor. Also considered the novatec super lights but the wheelbuilder suggested they were virtually dry weather only in his experience

Was with a non-cycling friend for the first 37 miles so didnt really push it today, the ride was really smooth though, the loudest noise when the wind was behind me was the tyres on the road.

Great project. I'd recommend rounding off the bottom corner as the big top messenger bag i have has a bit of a point here and digs in to my back meaning that i dont use it unless i absolutely need to
