I have used and would recommend Maxxis Refuse, Bontrager Racelite Hardcase, and if you're a skidder Gatorskin Hardshells or Vittoria Randonneurs (though the latter are heavy and are not fun to fit).

Me and my big feet are fans of Sylvan Touring pedals when I'm running clips and straps. More chance of pedal strike I guess but I've never had a problem on a track bike.

I've got some 1" threaded chrome ones with about 245mm of steerer, I'd be after £30 + postage though, so maybe too pricey for your project?

I must say I ummd and arrd about getting a clamp-on brake, believing them to be ugly. Ended up fitting one anyway and the look of it hasn't bothered me at all.

If you can't tighten the tension (I don't think you can with aliums) swap the cleats around, it makes them loads harder to clip out of.

^^ Ha ha you're kidding. So the steerer length they quote for those forks is bogus!
