I picked up Stargazing as a cheapo, total chance buy a few years ago; I also really enjoyed it.
So, what cycling books would people recommend I put on my xmas list? I think The Rider by Tim Krabbe is the only cycling book I've read, which is a very very poor show considering how much I enjoy the two pass-times.

Recently read:
If not now, when? by Primo Levi, really enjoyed it.
All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque, amazing and just as heart breaking as I remember from when I read it at school.
The Hunted by Elmore Leonard, brilliant pulp. I love his style, his books pretty much read themselves.
About to read Indignation by Philip Roth. Recent, so it's probably been panned, but I've enjoyed everything I've read by him, and haven't even read any of his seminal works 'cos they're never in the library!

I'm after some cranks, preferably 170mm but I'll consider 165mm as I'm not sure a pleb such as me will notice any difference. If a ring is included it'd ideally be 47 or 49.
Anything nice-looking and in decent nick considered, not really looking to spend £££s though.
And I'm up north so they'd likely need posting.
Cheers!

Thanks for the responses!
^^ Bizarrely enough I do already have a bag! I don't always want to carry a spare pair of shoes with me though, especially if I'm going to the pub. I can also use platform pedals and clips/double straps, I just fancied some clipless shoes that look ok with normal clothes and can't always be bothered to change my pedals.
^ I could get a car, I could get the bus, I could get a taxi. In fact why bother with a bike at all?

Does anyone know what the differences are in cleat thickness's ie which will make least contact with the ground when walking? I've bought some Chrome Kursk Pros in order to have some clipless shoes that I can wear with jeans etc and not feel silly. However they have a relatively thin tread so they tap dance a bit with the shimano cleats that I currently use (with Specialized MTB shoes).
Google suggests that Eggbeaters may have the lowest profile but I hear mixed reviews of their performance.

Finally got my new (old) frame back to my house. Needs some nice new wheels, maybe a nicer seatpost, maybe some drops, and a bigger chainring.
Also I'm going to get the top of the steerer tube filed properly and the star-fangled nut levelled; it seems daft to have a CK headset coupled with a blunt hacksaw/hammer job on the steerer.

Your friend just needs a shallow-drop brake. It wouldn't make much sense to have drilled forks that you couldn't fit a brake to.
The brakes on this page have the reach ranges specified http://www.velosolo.co.uk/shoppedal.html
Also http://www.lfgss.com/thread29816.html
and probably about 10 other threads on here ;-)

Actually forget about the recommendations, there are threads about such things already on here, obviously.
