As of last night I now have the somewhat dubious pleasure of being a member of the 'Run Dem Crew' alongside the forum's own Tika. Figured it's a good way to keep running after the marathon if I have somewhere close to work that I can get to easily to do some runs and after sitting through the introduction last night looks like a pretty sound group. certainly a lot more laughs than a traditional running club (of which they staunchly insist they are not).
In other news though, my left knee is basically fucked. I cut my easy run short at 3 miles last friday, struggled through my 16 miler on saturday behind pace because of it and after 2 days of not running I managed my strength run but had to pull up before I finished my cooldown because it was just too sore. also had tightness at the front of my arch and a pain that that jumped around all over the front of my foot as I went along. I also seem to be getting a random acute painwhere the top of my foot joins my ankle that just hurts for a few seconds even if the foot is immobile and then goes away again.
Time to see a physio? get it checked out and sorted rather than pushing on and damaging yourself. Could just be those traditional taper fears though.
Re. running clubs, how many traditional running clubs have you tried out?

I definitely don't want to do anything more than 20. I've done 20 once, 15 twice, all the rest of my "long" runs have been about 12. I feel like another 20 would make me slightly less worried about the distance.
.Do a long slow 20 then. Makes sense.
i really enjoyed Feet in the Clouds, it has that essential make you want to go out and run effect. I was going to try some fell racing this summer; being trapped in London might put paid to that as I want to do it with some proper training ( the South Downs aren't quite tough enough).

It's now three weeks until london marathon and I'm not sure when to start tapering. I kind of want to do another long run this weekend. Is this a silly idea?
How many long runs have you done? i wouldn't do anything more than 20 miles now.
Saying hello to other runners has definitely died out. I blame ipods, people running with them don't hear my cheery hellos. i used to think it was better in the north but running in Newcastle over Christmas destroyed that for me.

Boast post alert - 1:28:32 in today's Richmond half, well chuffed. So good to see all my training pay off. Felt strong and maintained a steady pace throughout. Nice course, but the barefoot shoes probably weren't the best choice, a few long stretches of gravel and mud. Looking forward to my next.
great run. pick a flat fast road one next time and you will be even faster. :)
had my last long slow run before half marathon next weekend. felt awful but managed to get to two hours before stopping. Not as good as one lad I know who ran 30miles in 3 hours this morning!

Bloody hell, I've done 229 this year, 500 is fantastic!
does that include races and track sessions?
I'm on 433 + races and track sessions.
500 is definitely on track for 2014 in 2014. keep it up.
and a little bit of light weekend reading: big running v running

I'm really enjoying Parkrun at the moment. Took approx 50 seconds off my best on that course, mainly due to starting at the front not the back.
which one? problem with parkrun is that they vary so wildly according to course.
gentle long run along the Thames this morning. I chickened out of the faster miles at the end.

lost my mojo this weekend. not been sleeping properly and felt constantly tired, weather was shit, I had 3 days off total in feb (not counting the day I commuted by bike instead of a rest day) so I decided I'd have a rest. no running today or yesterday.
Overtraining? This happened to me when i started running more than 2 or 3 times a week.
Get back on it soon. It has been sounding really good.

I loved the Nottingham course, especially how dry it was since I didn't learn my lesson from Parliament Hill about buying some spikes.
(Sadly I haven't exercised since because I seem to have developed a lovely cough based cold.)
at least you can put off the purchase until next autumn now.
i think i preferred Parliament Hill.
Couple of ten milers coming up over the next few weekends any of you marathon lot doing them to see where you are at? Battersea Park tomorrow or Sidcup 10 next week? Properly measured long standing races and everything.

How was Hampton Court? was the weather ok or was it a bit windy?
Nationals in Nottingham yesterday were fun, a course recce suggested there was only one patch of mud. When we were running it there was significantly more than one patch, I nearly lost a shoe halfway round the second lap. A difficult course but not as tough as Parliament Hill.
This morning's long slow run at 6:43 was too fast and not long enough but has totally destroyed me.

20 miles done yesterday, average pace 7:55. Average pace for the first 17 miles: 7:45. Average pace last 3 miles: 8:40. Ouch.
On the plus side, when I got home I ate peanut butter with a spoon and felt entirely justified.
good effort.
My long run on Sunday turned into a long slow walk as Saturday's post x country re-fuelling strategy took its toll.
I also took the decision to not do a marathon this spring as I can't get enough miles in. Aiming for a 75 half and guaranteed start for London next year now...

I would, but I'm doing a half the following weekend. It would probably be silly to do two on consecutive weekends, right?
If you are aiming to race them both hard then yes, daft idea. However, you could take one at a training run pace (canny expensive training run though).
Race the flatter one and use the other for mileage?
I dreamt that i got beaten in a 400m race at sports day by my worst class. it was grim.
2014 aims:
sub 75 half marathon - hopefully this Sunday.
I also want to do some fell races. so if anyone fancies a south downs training run or two?
