A big plus to micycle in islington. really friendly and helped me with my stuck seat post. even let me leave it soaking in caustic soda overnight.
I wasn't aware of this but they have an open workshop. so if you don't have the right tool/space for the job you can go down to their workshop and use their tools.

Mercury seems like quite might be quite hard to get hold of.
has anyone tried gallium? would it even work?
Gallium Induced Structural Failure of a Coke Can - YouTube
it apparently softens the aluminium. although, if it it looks like you might need quite a lot for a seat post that thick.

for a friend: stolen yesterday from her hallway on the hackney road
a black and red brick lane bike. i don't have a photo but i believe it would look similar to the first bike on this page but in black and red:

sorry for the lack of detail

and rumours abound that you're going to start (or already have started) selling ground monmouth street ground coffee to take home?
also much respect cos the other day we were out of coffee and the lady in there gave us some ground coffee to take home.
Hello coffee freaks,
It's been now about 1 month that I've been helping my mate, Lo, in his little gem of a cafe - Bird.
Bird café is located in Dalston, for those of you bothered enough to get a good, decent, worth every pence, cup of brew.
We're serving Climpson&Sons (default), Andronicas and Nude (<ususally only weekends).
There's also a variety of sarnies and baked stuff, the good news is that I'M DOING ALL THE BAKING!... 8D
so yes, most of the stuff I've posted to FOOD thread, is being served at Bird.
Muffins, brownies, toasts, melts, weapons, honeys, smoothies...you name it.
Don't be shy, come by, we're trying to make it more bike friendly, trying to figure out a way of having
our own racks/vases outside but the council is a bitche.location: 52 Boleyn Road, Dalston, Hackney N16 8JP
LFGSS friendly, if you ask for your coffee followed by "do a skid!!!", that's 10% off. ;)
You're all welcome you bunch of hipsters.
Laters.

caveat: i'm not an expert and thus could be talking out of my arse
i think what you're saying is that you're trying to change the bottom bracket on what i presume is an old bike from that 'cup and cone' style BB (the one pictured measuring 120mm?) to a more modern sealed cup BB?
you've measure the BB shell - 68mm - and so any BB you buy needs to be 68mm by 'X' where 'X' is the length of the spindle. this is usually determined by the cranks you buy. if you by a modern set of cranks they will usually tell you the minimum spindle length you need.
eg: the following crankset (chosen at random)
http://www.tokyofixedgear.com/products/50-Crank-Sets/740-Sugino---RD2-Messenger-Crank-Set---White/
tells you you need a 103mm square taper BB. So any BB you buy (if you were buying these cranks) needs to be 68mm by 103mm.
if you're putting the old cranks back on and you want a new BB i'm guessing you'd need 120mm x 68mm but this might be because the bike originally had more than one front cog?

so i've read through the thread.
i want to swap the forks out on a bike currently with 1 inch threadless forks. i would like some nice 1 inch lugged chrome forks and swap the ahead stem to a quill stem (i know some people on here will hate the idea but it's an aesthetics thing).
my plan is:
1) buy forks from tokyo fixed
2) take to brick lane and pay the 25 notes for them to thread.
potentially i may need to take the forks to get them de-chromed (though there seems to be some disagreement on this)
the forks will need to be cut down (as the bike is a 49cm and has a tiny head tube)
what measurements do i need to take before i get the hacksaw out and how accurate does the measurement need to be?
do i just measure the head tube and then add the stack height of the new headset and then get cutting?
how much threading will i need or will the good folk at BLB know what to do from there? -
