Pulled away from a junction this evening and had an almost instant blow out. Was in a rush so just walked about a mile home. Just checked it now and it's completely cut through and has had it. Wonder what could have caused it as I thought these are supposed to be pretty tough - isn't there a layer of kevlar in there? Having second thoughts about instantly replacing it with another, although it's the first puncture I've had in over a year with this tyre - just wasn't expecting it to fail so spectacularly.

I've tried searching the forum but not found anything on this, surprisingly.
Anyway, I've committed myself to riding the road road as part of a charity initiative at work.

I'm not going to do Box Hill nine times - just the once.
I wanted to see if anyone had done the route and can share any tips and advice from their experience? What ratio used, how long it took, how busy the route is etc?
I'm particularly interested in Box Hill advice. As it stands, I'm going to be set up with 46x18 on a flip flop hub, intending to ride out to and up Box Hill fixed and then flip it at the top and come back on the freewheel if necessary.
Cheers!

Thanks for the replies.
Agreed, it's had a good innings and whatever caused it would probably have killed anything.
Off to my LBS to talk about some of the recommendations.
Cheers all.
