I think it will probably be the first ones, just saving the money up, and agree with you on the modernity of black rims, however, the stem may well not be staying on this bike, and Im getting some campag pista cranks for it, so they may not clash as badly when the parts are a little less vintage-y...
cheers though, confirms my own ideas.

at risk of more abuse I need help....
Im thinking campag pista HF hubs laced to either record du monde de l'heure
http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/k545/gaz1979/wheels.jpg
or the dark mavic Gel 280...

just cant be sure about either without putting them on, and its killing me.
could anyone 'chop it for me!?

That respray looks nice with the slightly darker blue. And without c&g all over it...
I'm going to do this one slowly, essentially I had all the parts from a 60s build which didn't fit me, and while I love the parts, they don't necessarily fit the frame admittedly. Money being a large factor, il gradually build it up with period parts, and only get it resprayed when I can afford to get them to do it properly.. AND WITH ORIGINAL COLOURS!
The tt does slope a bit but the perspective has made it look steeper.

btw photo crank position fail
and chainring on cranks looks untidy, crank arm should line up with chainring pattern as top photo
#just sayin as you started your very own thread for this bike
I just took a pic of the bits together where Id left the bike, not going for a porn shot with valves in right position or anything.
Im pretty sure that the TA ring can only be placed symmetrically on the crank in one position, and this is it. I dont think the ring can be positioned over the crank arm, if Im understanding what you're getting at...

just took it for a spin on my beater wheels, was faaast, but thats cause I had it on 16/52... only 1/8 sprocket I had.
the wanking awesome looking 60s TDC headset I got from an amazing old bloke doesnt keep my forks solid in the headtube however, so theres a rattle when I hit any bump, so needs replacing, anyone got a nice old headset out there? campag pista or something?

Lovely frame by-the-by. I was watching it on eBay but I do believe that having two Orrells would be the kind of hedonism that lands one in hell.
ha! as it happens the seller was a certain forumenger who has one already as a daily... so perhaps the weight of her damned soul was what forced sale, not that it was too big.
those wheels sound a bit too modern to me, but Il PM you nonetheless.
Tommmmmmmm - yeah, Im going to go see them tomorrow night I think, but am a little worried that the gold will match the gold I was planning on respraying the frame with...
Wayne over at pedal pedlar has a pair of campag pistas on the dark grey anodized ma40s which need a bit of work, but Im feeling like the colour would be great. theyre mismatched LF/SF hubs though..

yeah theyre nice, though the logos look a bit modern, though on a similar note these would look pretty nice, little expensive for me though.

starting to think tubs could be nice, probably wont be skidding on these wheels...

So in keeping with the not-period-correct-but-looking-sort-of-period-correct theme, Im after some nice wheels...
Unicanitor has some lovely campag record laced to tubs on here for a good price, and while there are currently a few second hand tubs online for cheap, I think that its likely a bad Idea, as Il be riding it brakless, and mostly on roads.
so suggestions for clincher rims please...
Im really into mavic MA2s, but feel like getting a bit more exotic than that, perhaps some anodised porny rims, I saw some dark salmony red ones on here at some point recently that caught my eye...
help!

^^^^^holy shit, mind blown.
