Use a dollop of lithium grease or the blue assembly one just in case there's a discrepancy in sizes. You don't want to strip the thread.
I figured I'd buy some Phil Wood grease from a local dealer that only has the shop open three times a week. Might even go there as he's the best wheelbuilder around here.

I think Surly use English threading on their hubs which is 1.370" x 24tpi compared to the ISO standard 1.375" x 24tpi which most track hubs use. It probably should still work in that respect though.
The other issue I've heard of is that some track sprockets are wider than the Surly ones, which gives the lockring less thread to grip. Could be that.
Edit: the cog and lockring would still fit on, of course, it just might unscrew more easily than normal in use.
Could be that he didn't want to install it because of the fear of it stripping? Not that shite then perhaps?

Shit LBS.
Maybe he tried to put the lockring on before the sprocket? Did he think it was a spacer?
Nah, I don't think he's THAT bad. He's used to BMX tings. I think he didn't realise he dealt with a flipflop which is odd considering he's selling BLB-hubs.
name and shame the lbs

Have you painted the headset?
Headset was ready for the heap. Couldn't be arsed to remove it before priming.
That's a hair. Rattle-canning naked, perchance?
Not this time, however the orig painter could have and it could lie beneath the orig paint. I scratched the primer off and a spot of orig paint was underneath but I never filed it to see how deep it was. I'll check it later tonight to see if it's indeed a hair.
what? the pube?
