spotted a commuter quality fixed locked up outside victoria train station on the railings. Its been there the past few months, moves up and down the railings a bit, but always there.
Whole thing painted in black hammerite type paint with grit in it, result.... surface texture similar to 'anti-bill poster lampost paint' completly unstealably aweful, so I copied the idea.... -

they're just going to wheel it aren't they.
Should probably booby trap your bike when you leave it. acid on the track nuts, razor blades in the saddle, anti climb paint on the grips.....
the task force seem to be getting through quite a lot of bikes & leads. And from what I've read on this thread do seem to be returning the occasional bike, which is better than most parts of the UK. When I lived in the northeast if you rang th police local number and had the words 'stolen & bike' in the same sentance they would just hang up on you, not worth their time etc. -

haha yes, but I was attempting to hide my past-time from my employer, showing them what I get upto between meetings (and occasionally in a working day) is probably not the best way forward in business.
the whole idea of exploring does fit what I'm looking for though, the mix between modern adventure, pioneering in an urban environment and whats trendy**though those true pro's don't consider it trendy and quietly get on with it.

reading that park tool howto, the bit you are seeing is probably just a dust cap for the bearings & pawls. It unscrews in the drive direction, therego turning it the other way would act as unthreading the freewheel from the hub BUT. I bet the cap will give out before the thing comes off the hub.
Looking at my freewheel covers (shim600 + a random campy + some cheapies) they are all metal, but I would bet they would break/shatter/twist before the thing actually came undone. -
you'll probably have to adapt a tool. best off finding a shop that has a selection then buy one and file it to fit. Use a QR or bolt through to secure teh tool against the freewheel as one slip and the tool will be minced. I learn't this the hard way thinking 'I'll just try that before I go to work' and boof, fudged it.

Hey people of LFGSS
Recently I've been tasked with trawling the interwebs looking for interesting blogs/articles, mainly on an adventure/ outdoors/ exploring (any)/ philosophical side of things. My hours are running out and so far I'm coming up with a lot of not so great stuff.
McNebula posted me in the direction of this...
http://www.blueanarchy.org/holdfast/
the anarchists yacht club. Never heard anything like it before, but after watching the documentary (really good!) realise there are quite a few people who do this.asking really if anyone has come across any blogs, stories or articles on that sort of line in the past year or so.
Cheers all! :)

with virgin you get an indian call centre, who doesn't understand northern and will beat about the bush for about 10minutes costing your money on a premium number. Language barrier over it was a pretty simple process.
however, pendelino's, their flagship mainline trains, can take like 70persons per carriege. Yeah, only has 4bike slots. any recumbants/ tandems take up the whole space, and there are an alarming number of them travelling like that!Grandcentral are a PROPER train company, running decent old valentia powered thrash monsters with free cups of tea/coffee and monopoly and free wireless. You can take as many bikes and luggage as you please and it never costs that much money, even if you just get on it without booking in advance. the rest need to learn a lesson, and come renewal time for service contract for west coast mainline its unlikely virgin will win it again ;)

Has anybody had any luck with Lock-Wiring seatpost bolts on? Unless the attacker went to the effort and fiddly'ness of unwrapping/ pulling at/ cutting the stainless wire they would have a hell of a job, even with 12" molegrips. My saddle is worth £0 and my post in the minus numbers, they look shiney and worth stealing, maybe I should set to work with some decorative duck tape? :p Just blows if someone nicks something like that making riding back a bit of a pain :o

Is there not an OTP/road/city bike thread somewhere? or have I just totally missed the plot on this one...
