Fair play, my Saffron has 1" steerer and it's really lovely. Though it's not custom for me and I have an a-head stem installed, the thought of having to unwrap bars and remove brakes to change stem always sways me back towards A-head. But then again, the frame isn't custom to me so size is always a bit of an issue ;)

I picked this up a few months ago off ebay, in typical fashion I didn't contact the seller asking for exact measurements. It was listed as 58cm, I could eye ball that it was smaller but I made an offer in vein hope that it might just be the angle making it look small, nonetheless I won it for £40.
And of course its 56cm square.
So it's been sitting looking sad on a radiator for ages and I decided f*ck it I'll build it up with bits and bobs and use it as a run around.
not sure what it's made of, but it's nice and light so I imagine something fairly decent.
Plan is.
- give it a good clean up.
- upright style swept back bars + some inverse levers from parts bin.
- tyres - as big as i can get in.
- possibly a basket, got a black wald but would love a silver one if i can find £.
- need to either get a chain tensioner or magic gear, probs just get a chain tensioner.
This is going to be in reality too small, not particularly adequate functionally. But I'm going to try and do this on the cheap and satisfy the urge for a bit of a project!

- give it a good clean up.

Bit the bullet and bought a Speedheater Cobra. Thanks for the tip, will keep you (all) posted on results.
Btw I also tried out the Tensid paint stripper, and it was pretty good actually. Though it only ate through one layer at a time and then sort of became denatured. So I can imagine it being really quite costly over a large surface, plus it makes a total mess!!! yuck! But fumes weren't too harsh on the upside.

Hmmm, except the cheapest one I can find is like £200.
and annoyingly cant find any for rental..Though I would tend to agree with you on getting the thing that does the job best in advance of future jobs, I'm unconvinced I will strip that much paint in my lifetime...
thanks for the tip, perhaps i'll bite the bullet ;)

What about a 90s mtb, get a 17" frame? with 26" wheels it will quite small.
You can get some pretty nice stuff on ebay for cheap.
not sure you'll have much luck finding 650b frames on ebay, unless a 650 surly straggler pops up perhaps.
