Also 2.5 Ask a few neighbours if you can look at their lofts. We did this and people would also refer us to other neighbours with good lofts (!) so we ended up plugged into a sort of loft network :-/ Used to bring cake to thank neighbours (and @aggi) for letting complete strangers nose round their house.
One person no one else seemed to know but she had the best layout on the planning portal so I resorted to introducing myself one day when I saw her in her garden and asking if I could come and see her loft.

I was in the same position a few years ago and ended up joining this lot https://snowheads.com/
In fact I am the OP on this thread https://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=133474
They are mainly skiers (and mainly middle-aged, including me) but there's a handful of boarders including some other lfgssers... who I won't out, but might reply for themselves ;)
It's not set up for tuition or anything, though certainly ok to arrange lessons if you are on a trip. The main benefit is you are completely fine to just book as an individual and you are made welcome to join in with others when you get there, plus with the attached forum there's continuity and community.
Before then, a few times when I couldn't find anyone to go with I stayed solo with https://www.pleisure.co.uk/ - they are snowboard specific accommodation and (at least back in the day) the staff and other guests would usually be happy to pick up the odd waif and stray.
I have heard good things about Mint https://mintsnowboarding.com/ and Avoriaz/Morzine is a great area - I spoke to them a few years ago about doing a few days out of one of their week courses while I had a few days before my friends came out but ended up with an independent who would tailor for just the days I need.
I've also had holidays where I'm with skiers but want to focus on boarding and do fun boardy things so I've hired a private snowboard instructor/guide for a few days and basically said "I want a mixture of tips, a few drills and just some fun riding around - like a few days with a mate who is a lot better then me". $$$ obviously, but I take the view that it's $$$$$ to be there in the first place so I'd rather spend a bit more to make the most of it.

I really wanted a big Le Creuset pot at one time, but once I saw the price I didn't want it quite enough.
I asked for Le Creuset stuff for my 18th birthday cos I knew I'd be leaving home that year.
And for my 19th a black and decker drill, which I also still have.
Born middle aged, working backwards :)

Yeah, I work in ESG and the question of primary vs secondary markets is IMO not one asked enough when it comes to ESG investing.
What's interesting right now is "funding the transition" - ie if you blacklist all the oil companies you cut off their ability to invest in decarbonisation when they are some of the companies best placed to do so.

A loft only takes 6 weeks too, not 6 months.
Hollow laugh.
FWIW our neighbour said Yes on the doorstep without even reading the letter we wrote, then turned around a few weeks later and wanted to go down the surveyor route. He'd been spooked by the buildings equivalent of ambulance chasers who watch for the planning applications then contact the neighbours and convince them to appoint them.

Is this the right place for doofus Alexa questions? I accidentally linked my parents' (new, being set up by me) Alexa to my iplayer account and I can't find any way to unlink it again. What obvious thing am I missing?
ETA: Found it, the Alexa app was being a dick. Restarted the app and was able to open the necessary settings.

That room is like a much much much tidier version of my mum's room.
I'd guess most of those books predate kindles.
My mum's got about 50 year's worth of books, plus a load that she got from older relatives over the years, and she still loves buying second hand books from charity shops. She's not going to rebuy them all just so they can fit on a kindle.

Done 3 batches this year and got worse at it each time :(
I always panic there's not enough filling and overfill the pies, then get distracted while leaving them to cool enough to touch and miss the sweet spot when the pies are stable but the escaped filling is still soft, and they get welded to the tin and have to be chiselled out.
