@ad441 - I'm going to be driving over to Loughton tomorrow morning to pick up my two from Louth and Brampton; will be heading back to Dartford with them, but work in Westminster so if that works logistically for you let me know your details and I can grab them.
Happy to do the same for anyone else that finds the trip to Loughton not so easy to do.

Another DNF at Barnard Castle (me, rider S31); first day went like a dream and was ever so slightly ahead of planned schedule of 22km/h for that and then 18km/h on day two (despite the worst three hours 'sleep' in Louth!).
Pain on outside of right knee before Thirsk, first aider suggested ITB issues as matched his symptoms in the past too - pushed on to Barnard Castle after trying to loosen it, but felt worse (getting off and walking wasn't enjoyable). Had a snooze, wasn't any better on waking so have made my decision based on knowing there's 600mi. or so to go and I'd quite like to be able to walk properly once home without having done any real damage.
Got to 770mi. in 2013 before running out of time, failing what was then my first ever audax due to bad decisions/strategy felt worse than this, so I know it's the right choice. I think.
Will volunteer here for a bit to help the wave of returners on their way south. Just need to then work out how to get back home to Dartford...
Good luck everybody else still on the road!

I'm an 11am-er too, and got a (rough!) plan in mind of stopping for a 'proper' break at Louth, Brampton, Brampton, Louth and then wherever I feel exhausted enough on the final stretch - gives me days of 242km, 312km, 301km, 217km and a final run from setting off of 361km having set off in the early hours of Thursday.
If by some fluke there's a mahoosive tailwind on the way up or down or things just aren't going to plan I'll need to adjust accordingly...but that at least gives me a starting point and a reference to see if it's all going to pot!

Not sure what your budget is, but assuming it's reasonably given your current ones are Rapha Classics how about a pair of Santini Edge 2.0 from Prendas?
...and in regards to a rain jacket, I thought I'd got a bargain when I recently managed to snaffle a Gore Oxygen Active Shell at £105.00 - they're now up on Wiggle at £99.99!

Watched the whole film a couple of weekends ago as a reminder of 2013 - I met the makers when they were looking for people to follow and, having seen it, can see why they picked the people they did.
It's well worth a purchase; whilst they don't go into as much detail as I was expecting (there's no ramped-up Ice Road Trucker-style 'Dave's got three hours until the control closes' tension), the tales that are told and the scenery itself make it a good watch.
I think there was three or four of them that were out on the roads filming. It'd be amazing to see what sort of documentary they could produce if they had the funding/manpower to support a full-blown recording.

I know that I'd be far better off investing in a Raspberry Pi with a couple of USB pads and installing RetroPie, but a mini-SNES?!
Shut up and take my money, Nintendo (and get cracking on a mini-N64).

Am a little bit concerned about the Sonos set-up we've invested in now they're into this HomePod demonstration - although to be honest a lot of the features are already in Sonos' speakers, bar the Siri voice control...it's basically a Sonos/Alexa hybrid.
Think they'll be okay, hopefully Apple aren't out to obliterate all competition...

Looks like there'll be streams of every single Football League match available from next season
Those not in UK and Ireland will be able to subscribe to iFollow for c.£110 a season for iFollow which will provide coverage of up to 46 live games per club.
Assuming this is something a simple VPN will be able to circumvent too?

Katy Perry and Stormzy will be on the undercard somewhere, it's Radiohead and Ed Sheeran that'll be filling up the Friday and Sunday headliner slots (Foo Fighters are on the Saturday).
We've made the choice not to go, I know 'it's not all about the music, though...yah?' but we can't really justify the £s given that we're not that keen on any of the headliners and have seen a lot of the others in the past.
Fallow year next year so just have to see what 2019 holds, although they've suggested they may run a pseudo-Glasto in the midlands in 2018 instead.

I recognise that name! Landlord used them for a property up in North London when we were renting around 2013 - seem to remember it not being the best of jobs, certainly didn't have the attention to detail that @dst has detailed above.
Edit: just found the emails that were exchanged between the freeholder(s), and it was them coming back to fix previous work too; 'We have recently been at the property and have noticed a few issues with the paintwork to the ground floor flat. I have been in touch with [them] who originally did the paint work and they have said they would come back on Thursday and Friday and fix it as it is still under warranty.'

Had a feeling the time would come...the Apple Cinema HD Display (23") that I liberated from the 'to be thrown away as it's broken' pile and have been using for the last year or so finally appears to be giving up the ghost - flickering between solid black and normal display whilst plugged into my Macbook Air.
Assuming I can't find a magic fix to this issue I could do with getting a replacement lined up having got used to working in this way - have seen the Dell UltraSharp U2414H mentioned in a few places, but it's £230ish...any other recommendations at all?
EDIT: Just spotted @Johnnyw75 has asked exactly the same question above...sorry!

My advice though is look at Vitsoe.
Oh my, that's really nice compared to the ALGOT system we ended up buying from IKEA for the space next to the desk in our spare room - it's about five times the price, but would certainly look better in a living area.

We had to pay a little more on the first months mortgage payment to make up the difference in dates.
Yeah, worth remembering this may happen. Having completed on the 8th of the month, our first payment on the 1st of the following month was c.40% more than the usual one. We knew it was coming, but I do know people that have been caught out.

Apparently so, it's what was in the local press according to my dad anyway...will do some digging and try and find it.
I know they bought the family home in the mid-to-late 80's for c.£150k and based on what others are going/have gone for recently it's probably sat at around £250k now.
It's not the greatest of places, but it's not that bad and it's bloody accessible for getting around the country.

Peterborough is a great hub and fast line to London - 50 minutes
Parents are up in Peterborough, was a bit in the local press recently that said prices have only gone up c.20% in the last ten years...you can get a generously sized four-bed in a nice area for well within £250k.
We did consider moving up that way when looking for our first house, but with both of us working in Westminster we baulked at the annual £14,968 train season tickets (or £12,632 on the slower Great Northern Line) to get us to and from work without taking into account any extra cost for using the Tube or bus!

Jurassic Park (in concert) at the Royal Albert Hall last night. Simply brilliant.

Whole lot was great, but sat watching the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra play out the closing credits to a silent and at capacity Royal Albert Hall was spine-tingling.
Fantastic stuff, and the second of these I've watched having gone to a screening of The Godfather last year - will definitely be keeping an eye on what they've got planned for this time in 2017.
Think there's still some tickets left for today and tomorrow's screenings of Jurassic Park if people are interested.

If anybody's planning on doing a bit of decorating this weekend Dulux are running the Dulux Paint+ Cashback Challenge.
Buy up to ten 2.5L tins of paint between 26th and 29th August, register your purchase (with a photo of the room you're doing) and paint your room within 48hrs to be able to claim your money back via pre-paid MasterCard.
Yes, there's hoops to jump through but if you were going to be targeting a room anyway it's probably worth doing? We'll be taking advantage and giving the bathroom a refresh.

What mands said. It's got to be paid off at some point, and with a couple of £k left you should be fine for any minor hiccups along the way as well as paying less monthly so having the ability to start saving it back up again. Do take a look at the mortgage paperwork though in preparation for the first monthly payment (ours was about 55% more than the second onwards due to the way the dates fell!).
Assuming you have no dependents that is? One thing my Dad said when we were sorting out the paperwork on our place that stuck was 'without kids it doesn't really matter if you have to struggle with x, y or z for a month or so'.

Saw 1984 at the Almeida Theatre when it did its first run. Thought it was a very good interpretation of the book, and would recommend it to anyone with a passing image. Some clever staging throughout and a terrific 'revolve' moment.
Was shortly after American Psycho in the same theatre, which was comfortably one of the best things I've seen on stage ever. They've teased that it'll be making a transfer to the West End for a while now - once it does I will certainly be making a visit.
No problem, consider it done!
