Im looking to buy my first road bike to test and make sure i am comfortable with the set-up before looking to possibly buy a mercian frame and building it up (have been riding a ladies Orbit touring bike with northroad bars and downtube shifters). I want to be confident that STI's/"Brifters" are the right choice for me so does anyone have a bike that would be suitable? Im ideally looking for a 56cm C-T but can be a bit flexible on the size.
Does anyone have anything they are looking to sell? Dont have a massive budget so doesnt matter if it a bit tatty.
Just to confirm: I am looking for a complete bike with a max budget of £150

Where did you order the Grand Bois from?
Think this project sounds great, really looking forward to following its progress.
Before Ryan get started on the project (he's currently doing Jenne's bike as we speak), he needed the component in order to make sure it's the right fit for the frame, so I've placed the following on order;
Entry level 650B touring wheelset (will be replaced by a lighter Hope/ Velocity wheelset soon, 28h front, 32h rear).
Paul Racer brazed-on brakeset.
Gille Berthoud 650B mudguard with clearance up to 44c tyres.Right now, the first part that come in the post is the Grand Bois 650B 42c tyres;

That is lovely, this is exactly the kind of thing that i would look to achieve, better get on the look out for a suitable frame. Thanks edscoble

The Eco Velo is a really interesting read, I had already seen the lovely bike review and she seems very happy with hers. I think maybe edscoble is right, its is a lot of money and i could do 650B with a cheaper frame, its a shame as i really do think the rivendell is a great bike but maybe not worth all the cash especially as i cant try it out before hand.

Does anyone have any experience of these bikes? http://www.rivbike.com/product-p/f-hillborne.htm
After a year of riding on my orbit gold medal I am thinking about purchasing something more suitable for touring. I think this would suit me well and like the styling. Any thoughts or better alternatives that might be easier to get in the UK?
