wheel update: Just went to another lbs (less local but en route to work). Informed me that I could proba fit 700 on my bike. Said that they are only a little smaller and I just lower the brake pads....is this true.
If so, it does make the wheel a hunt a little easier!
ed, have ridden bike for a few days and it is really comfortable. Thought it might rattle a bit, but doesn't at all. Getting used to the break lever on the frame. Also, haven't quite figured out how to get a smooth change in gear....
....as a bonus everyone who saw the bike thought it was pretty sweet, expect a couple of chuckle fucks who couldn't spot a bike if one was parked in their arse.

f'king ebay......I must be doing something seriously amateurish.....I have lost out of two wheels sets. The final bit of the project is to replace the wheels I currently have on it......missed out both times, once by 20p and second time by 45p......some bastard is buying up all the 27 1/4 stock!
Updates from riding in the rain: The front brakes don't work so well. I think this is because the front wheel in chrome. I have been told this is bad news for the brakes. (Hence the need for new wheels)
The mudguards, although look quite sporting, are a serious fail! They don't do much to protect me from the rain.
I think the seat is still too low! Only noticed when I was standing on bike and going up a hill!

ed,I thought it was a little high, but actually it's just right.... ...(I'm 5'7"). When I lowered it I couldn't stretch my leg proper. .....why'd u think it might not be?
saddle is the B17 ladies brook I bought....I think I need to tilt it up a little as I feel like I am sliding off. However, it was surprisingly comfy. heard that these bastards can hurt a little but rode it yesterday for a bit and it was cool.
thanks for advice....think your right about riding for a bit before I move on.......

........ a little gutted that I missed out on this. I might have been a nice project..(or maybe not?)

thanks all. It may only be small fry compared to some of you big fish in here, but it's a small step ....hopefully in the right direction....well I'll find out tomorrow when I commute to work (please brakes don't fail).
teetee, thanks for that link....I'm in....going to buy some. It will make it shinny (drooll)
play.....that is black handle bar tape I put on......are you looking at the pre fix up pic (with the red tape).
If you guys bump into a frame that I could do up, let me know...(I have checked out hilary stones frame, even they are a little pricey for me at the moment).

hi,
prior to throwing out.....thought I would see if anyone wanted these. ...they are big.....require 2 people to carry out of house. you will need a car to take these home.
They also need work! The bottom speakers sponge in flaking off, but I have bough a replacement kit, which I would give you. There is also some distortion coming from them! They would ideally be for someone who had a bit of know how about how to fix em up.
Will be throwing them by end of day unless someone is keen

Update so far. Went back to vaidas. They have been really helpful. They have swapped the gear unit over for me. Was thinking about getting them to do a lot of other work, but I really want to learn how to do this. But they are my plan B if things get messy.
Wings, thanks for the offer on wheels. I have a back and front which are good. They are not a set. However, I have found a replacement set of orginals on e-bay. Link below, I hope.
what do we think about this set. That or plump for a lighter set.

Too big for me!
here is the hard sell
vintage raleigh frame, light tubing (i think 531 or 501), 58cm frame c-t-c (for 5"10 +), excellent base for fixed gear or single speed project, and also a geared conversion.
It has horizontal dropouts, comes with handle bars, seatpost, saddle, rear and front brake. cranks, chain, pretty much everything in the pictures (no pedals). The frame is in good condition, minor scratches, can accept 700c/27" wheels. Comes with a back and front derailer.
Looking for £60 ono
