I guess you might solve the rattle by having some rubber on the inside of that loop where the lock goes through?

gripnut: lower stack height = 12.9 according to the chris king website. That's still 3mm more than my ~10mm lower stack height noname headset on my beater

haha, heard that before, no worries. winter time = less riding, more (too much) thinking.

actually I just compared the lower stack height of my 600 EX to an unknown cheap headset on another bike I have, and the difference is actually 5mm (!) as the other bikes lower race+crown race are only 10mm altogether.

= there is something to improve ... I think the 15mm of the 600 EX is actually really fat, I was always wondering if it's a bit much, so keep it coming, let me know the measures of your headsets!

why only the non-njs? and how much is its actual *lower *stack height? (= just the lower half)

I am looking for a threaded headset with a very short stack height of the lower half = to get the front wheel even tighter towards the downtube.

At the moment I am using a Shimano 600 (EX) headset which has a lower stack height of 15mm - are there any headsets which are significantly less?

I have read that, for example, Tange headsets are quite short, but I can only find data for the complete stack height, not for the lower parts.

Let me know if have a recommendation,

Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit M18-NX

This is exactly the same as the popular Fahgettaboudit Mini, including the 18mm strong shackle etc., except that this is the long version which allows you to reach locking points where the Mini is just too short, or to lock two bikes at once. The width is exactly the same, so you can use it in Mini holders (fabric horse etc.) as well.

This is *not *the wide+large version which is called M18-WL. As said, same width as the Mini, just longer (~300mm).

This was £80 new and you won't find it for less than £72 including shipping at the moment.

A bit marked from everyday use but technically 100% fine.
