I want secure borders, sensible people do, not least so we can have a decent Refugee & Immigration policy. Under the tories we don't have this.
I refuse to give up the flag to the right,I claim it as I claim the word Queer.
Is there anything Labour could say or do that would make you happy?
I honestly doubt it. -

Not very scientific I know.
The Great Labour Government of 1945 only just hung on to power in the following 1950 election, and were out in '51. 13 years of tory rule.
1983 was seen as a Left Wing Labour manafesto, lost to thatcher, 14 more years of tory govenment
1997, 2001,2005, Tony Blair wins 3 in a row only Labour Leader to do this.
2017 Jermy Corbyn's Labour lose to a hapless Teressa May who runs a bad campaign IMO.
2019 Labour under Jermy Corbyn lose again, worst loss since 1930's to Boris Johnson. Then Truss, now Sunak almost 14 years and counting the cost.
Under Centerist Keir Starmer Labour has come back and is 20 points ahead.
Looks like a pattern to me.

I believe sunaks basic strategy is; hang on and it'll get better. To me this dosen't seem to be working, it isn't, it isn't coming good for them.
The tories are just looking like they are more myred in sleeeze have given up, trying to get the most for themselves whilest they can etc.
To try and convince enough tory MP's that sunaks stratagey isn't working and via the threat of a no confidence vote get them to pressure him into calling a general election sooner would be the answer, but turkeys and Christmas etc.

IF the polls are true.
Not being the tories has got Labour into a winning position with a 20 point lead.
Why risk it? Why change it? Looks like Labour's plan is working, why this close to an election decide to go off in a different direction?
To keep some actavists happy? Who will a) prob find fault with something b) vote Labour anyway in their very safe Labour seats.
Idea; if you want a massive Labour landslide, makes tories not scared of labour then you win big and hopefully have lots of time and mandate to change stuff

I agree with the idea that the Peers not having to face re election brings something to the revising chamber, as dose having people who are expert in their field. a commission apointing the great and good?
The patronage and apointment part of it stinks, always has and always will. It's a form of corruption, give x million to the tories and your a Peer!
I've always liked the idea, that at least a proportion of the chamber reflects the vote at the last General Election. So 10% of the national vote equates to 10% of the seats, or at least the fraction of seats that are allocated with this method, it dose have a like to a Democratic vote whilest not being directly elected, perhaps term limits of two election. I know this would have to use a Party List system giving the party leaders some powers of patronage but I still think it's a more democratic system.

Sunak is clever, no doubt, it's got him where he is.
But he's not good at Politics which is an art craft and skill in it's own right, having the Common Touch also helps which he ain't got.
Wilson, Thatcher, Blair don't have reputations for being super clever but they could,in their own ways do Politics very well, each won three elections and dominated their political generation.
Sunak might be remembered as the first Asian PM; which is an achievement but nothing else* because there isn't anything else.
*ok maybe hopefully leading the tories to a generational disaster of a defeat.

Bojo won an overall majority of 80. 80 isn't a Landslide in my opinion, landslides start at 100. So Starmer isn't overturning a Landslide but a big majority.
Why have the tories managed to destory a very healthy majority in 4 years? I'd start with them having 3 PM who were in various ways completely unsuited to being PM. Starmer isn't special he's mearly competent and honest, but in comparisonto Bojo, truss & sunak they make him look like the son of god!
If Labour get the 100-150 majority which looks possible, they only have to be competent, honest and with a bit of political luck able to have a second term in '28/'29.

IMO, he's so confident of winning the next election he's simply moving on the tories ground; taking their ideas, BoJo's Leveling Up and making it his own. I think the Reeve's "Thatcher" speech is an example of this as well.
I believe he's doing this not just to win the next election but to do it with a landslide, which will in all probability secure him and 2nd Labour a second term in office. I take it as a sign of confidence.

I did leave, which was a good move and I didn't go back the next day, even though all of me was screaming to.....oh yeah! It is VERY moreish. Felt like shit much of a day, but didn't go back which was one of my much better moves.
