I remember sitting in the Canning on a Saturday in June, 1994, surrounded by delirious Irishmen watching Ireland beat Italy 1-0 in the World Cup. That was the same day that the Pride march ended in Brockwell Park, which made for a very interesting party mix on the Saturday evening. Thing is, the Canning had a pretty varied crowd any day of the week. Hobgoblin wasn't the same.
There's probably a better thread for this, though.

I stopped drinking there when the burrito dude moved to the Dogstar*, Monday night used to be two burritos for a fiver night... Nom... Just the ticket while watching the footie on the big screen...
- This is BITD, Hobgoblin era... Tho' I also remember the George Canning era very well, but that was WWBITD...
I was a regular there when it was the George Canning. Hated the change to the Hobgoblin; completely ruined the atmosphere and alienated half the regulars.

Did 10k in 42 minutes at lunchtime. Would be a bit quicker with fewer obstacles to dodge. It seems that I average 206 steps per minute (which, if I understand this correctly, is a running cadence of 103) no matter what distance I do. I suspect that trimming that back into the 90s would actually help me gain some speed.

Don't think that really changes anything about the substance of the article, which doesn't even mention the pseudo-exclusivity.
