Picking up my new Black S2L from Evans tomorrow evening. Would have liked to have gone the independent-bike-shop route but I want it now dammit.
Spent today reading through this thread. Have come to quite enjoy my MKS pedals and solid toe clips on my current bike, will pick up some ezy pedals and fit those.
Any folding bike rides on the agenda in the near future?

I've started doing my morning commute from Clapham to Blackfriars at 0730 instead of 0800 - makes the world of difference along CS7.
On the ride back in the evenings I've taken to going at a much reduced pace and hanging back massively at junctions and lights. If you are anywhere near the front of the queue you will be engulfed by cyclists within seconds.

It sounds to me like your freewheel is bust. Mine did this a while back. Every now and again it would slip. There was no pattern as it happened under mild or 'extreme' power. I just 'flip flopped' it until I could preplace the freewheel.
That your freewheel is new suggests that this shouldn't be a problem but it may be a manufacturing error or similar.
Interesting.
I've got a shimano one at present. Can you suggest a more reputable brand?

First time you've pushed it hard?
Freewheel screws on and tightens in the 'driven' direction ?I've changed mine a few times recently - tightened it to what I thought was reasonable with a chain whip, and each time it's tightened more on the first significant hill, with a strong impression of chain slipping. I guess hauling a whip doesn't apply anything like the torque of 85kg going up a 20% gradient...
If there's no obvious fault, be brave and try it again?
Not the first time I've pushed it hard, its felt like its slipped a few times since fitting the new freewheel, but this was the first time it properly gave way.
I continued on my way afterwards with no incident, parked the bike up for an hour then cycled home, again with no incident.
Will see about getting the freewheel tightened.

Cycling home last night it felt as if my chain snapped and I've ended up with a gimped shoulder.
I was going along at a slow pace having just pulled away from the kerb. I shifted my weight onto my right foot and then all resistance disappeared. It felt similar to how I imagine a chain snapping feels, but the chain had not snapped. I ended up lurching down and forwards and in the process wondering if I'd dislocated my shoulder.
I recently had a new freewheel fitted, could this be the problem?
Can anyone shed any light on what happened and tell me how to make sure it doesn't happen again? Shoulder is pretty painful this morning and to make it worse I had to get the tube into work!

A few motorcycle cops at the junction of Kennington Lane and Kennington Road near Oval, then further northbound on the junction of Kennington Road and Lambeth Road next to the Imperial War Museum.
A chap with some bespoke facial hair on some kind of charge was getting a talk to from the plod. Was glad to see he was at least wearing a helmet.

I'm toying with the idea of getting a road bike.
In the interim I'm thinking of changing the gear ratio on my single speed (again) in order to give me a better feel for that type of riding.
After last consulting this thread I picked up a 16t freewheel, so am now in possession of 16t and 17t freewheel. Currently I'm running a 42t chainring. Provided the cranks etc will all fit, should I look to go up to, say 48t, or 46t?

Clapham to Blackfriars was dull as dish water. Not owning any overshoes I took the precaution of wrapping my feet in carrier bags - needn't have bothered.
Finally hit ice on the side road up to the office, did a bit of wheel spinning then got off and walked to the bike rack.
Its supposed to be -3 / -2 from midnight tonight til eight tomorrow morning, expect it to be a bit sillier then.

I'm moving into my own place (hopefully) at the end of the month and decided that I definitely need an xbox.
Very late to the party but have always enjoyed playing rock band on my flat mate's console so decided to treat myself to a late xmas present.
The last console I owned was a PSP. I played the heck out of ridge racer on it - is there anything similarly arcadey racing style on the xbox?

^^ same except my worst is I go over Southwark Bridge and the south lights x-ing with Southwark St can get a bit Whacky Races and on the North side of the bridge the crossing with Uppper Thames St when people get funneled into the ped area
Conversely going over Southwark Bridge and flying through the pedestrianised bit is an absolute pleasure when I'm heading out East to see friends at the weekend.

Work -
Best: Kennington Road between Oval and Lambeth North. Most people stay on the cycle superhighway to Elephant & Castle which I avoid like the plague.
Worst: Blackfriars Road from Southwark to the north side of the bridge, always a nightmare of traffic and traffic lights as I turn right towards Blackfriars station.
College -
Best: South down Marlborough Road, along The Mall then right round St. James's Park.
Worst: Trafalgar Square

On the Kennington Road yesterday, about 18:50, at the lights outside Pizza Hut & Pizza Express, heading south towards the junction at Oval.
You were on a blue single speed (possibly fixed), no helmet, blonde locks streaming in the wind, white apple headphones in.
The lights had been red for a while, there were several of us waiting, thank God the father with his two kids spotted you as you flew past the waiting cyclists and hammered it through the red light AND green pedestrian light.
I shouted a full throated "RED" at you as you disappeared down the road. The father thanked me for calling you out and I commented that we're not all like that.
RLJ-ing doesn't bother me, when riders are half sensible about it.
Nearly taking out a family isn't being sensible about it. You deserve a d-lock to the side of the head.

Anyone entered?
Picked up a telescopic seat post last night. Only needed an extra couple of centimetres, have barely got the post extended by that much, but it made the world of difference on the ride home yesterday and back in this morning.
I must say I'm finding the change in gear ratios a bit of a challenge, coming from 42 - 16 on the single speed.
