The Palace of Soviets was a massive architectural project undertaken by the Soviet Union at the outset of WWII. It was a building in Moscow designed to be an administrative center and congress hall, and if finished it would have become the world’s tallest structure. The plan for the building was decided via a countrywide public contest where 272 building concepts were submitted, and after a lengthy judging process, architect Boris Iofan was declared the winner. Construction on the building began in 1937, and by 1941 the building’s huge steel frame had been erected. Russian involvement in WWII brought an abrupt end to construction, and the building’s steel frame was eventually cut, dismantled, and used to build fortifications and railway bridges in and around Moscow. After the war ended, there was much talk of completing the project, but though the site was kept open until 1958, the Palace of Soviets was eventually abandoned.

Deep tunnels in NYC isn't possible due to the rock, until the advanced in drilling technology (otherwise it would have as many deep levels tunnel as London).

Why is that particular tunnel is huge?

It's always been possible just not economically viable.

As mentioned in the non-digital forum some fuckers assaulted me, and almost robbed my camera last evening.
It would have been less of a monetary, but more of an emotional loss as it's the old AE-1 my mother bought when I was born.

Does somebody have a bit of advice on this.
Do people have theft-insurance of some sort?
Do people use modern DSLR's built-in GPS systems to "track" their cameras?

I use E&L insurance (eandl.co.uk/camera-insurance). however I can't vouch for them as luckily i've never had to make a claim.
don't know anything about gps tracking as none of mine have such wizardry.

It's nicer to ride than I thought it would be. Although there is a very fine line in the amount of weight you can put in the front before it becomes difficult to control.

I've built a bike up another commuter, this time for longer distances where there is secure bike storage at the place i'm working at in Chiswick. It works really nicely. I need a longer stem and apart from having to put a new rear wheel on and the Wald basket, it hasn't cost me anything which is nice.

I remember thinking that the bloke hadn't quite given himself enough time for pulling out but that the other bloke who undertook had absolutely no reason for doing so other than to piss off the other guy. It was a really shitty bit of riding.

I'm bringing back the word "poser" (or "poseur" if you wanna be a French dick about it). Straight up. This whole everyone and everything is "hipster" bullshit needs to stop. The term "hipster" is just too vague to be used as effective slander. It's fucking lazy and ultimately very confusing. The hipster stigma became too convoluted for me when people started saying that being into unpopular things became too popular and proclaiming such was, in fact, the highest form of hipsterdom. See how confusing all that was? The term "poser", on the other hand, is solid. It's a classic that should've never left the public lexicon in the first place. Most importantly, it works perfectly.

Now, I don't expect this piece is going to go down smooth for everyone. After dropping lavish scriptures on my thoughts regarding tattoos some people or, rather, some people that think Internet comments can change the world, got their itty-bitty fweelings hurt. Before I go in on various types of poserdom allow me to preface with this: Being a poser is the way one carries themselves. It's not a uniform you can wear, though I am about to GO COMPLETELY OFF on a few of these uniforms. We all have done poser-ish things in our day, but some dudes are out here trying to win trophies at it. The key takeaway is that some of the following outfits and trends just try a bit too hard to be something that, well, just isn't and never will be.

With all that fair and balanced garbage out of the way, let's discuss (read: eviscerate via slander) poser try-hands and their current most popular forms.

The wheel was fairly true, so if the spoke tensions were uneven yet the wheel was true does that mean that the rim is significantly bent? or does it just mean that the wheel was badly built?

yesterday whilst riding to work a spoke snapped on my rear wheel, this caused the wheel to massively distort. Now i've had spokes snap before and the wheel has always gone out of true but never enormously.

So what would cause that?

For reference the wheel is an MA2 with a Mavic 500RD Freewheel hub, running a 7sp freewheel.
also, I had the wheel rebuilt about 2 years ago, by a now out of business bike shop.
