Thanks Wrongcog,
Yep the bar angle is first on the list tonight. unfortunately doing that will drop the effective handlebar height which i was trying to avoid. it's my own fault for building her a bike that i want instead of something that specifically to her needs.
however i'm going to persevere. and if needs be i'll shorten her arms. -

Thanks Hugo,
The main problem is that it's too short for her. I can't get the saddle back any further.
So first thing is change the saddle for one which will allow me to put it back a couple of inches. if that's still not enough then i'll think about a layback seatpost.
don't suppose anyone has an inexpensive layback post they're willing to part with that is 26.8?
I'll mess around with the bar angle to try and get it more comfortable for her. it is hurting her wrists. and that was only a 30min ride!the other thing is a longer stem i suppose but it'd be such a pity not to use that GT stem!

I wanted to make a practical (ish) interesting but not overly valuable bike for my dearly beloved to ride to work/general weekend stuff and be able to lock it up anywhere without ME worrying about it.
So I started off with this.

I stripped it down (old school; with Nitromors and a wire brush) then sanded it all back then satin clear coated it.
It took fucking ages. the last time I'd done that was probably 20yrs ago and I'd forgotten how much of a pain in the ass it is.
Anyway, here's a few pics of how it's looking now.
The handlebar grips were my girlfriends only stipulation, but I quite like them as it turns out.

I would love to go on Saturday, unfortunately i'd be in serious shit with my special lady friend.
how often do you go there. and I'm assuming I need a permit, is that right?
The other question is how hard do you ride? (I only ask as I haven't been riding as much as I used to/haven't been on a mountain bike in years). -
I'd be up for a little weekend jaunt in the woods. I've never ridden with anyone from the forum so it'd be good to meet some people and i'm getting desperate to go mountain biking again. It's been a while.
however in anticipation of recapturing my MTB yoof, around christmas, I built up a 98' Kona Kilauea (631) front suspension little beauty. and have only used it once so far this year! -

I've done Annapurna circuit and sanctuary. And the 3 passes version of the Everest base camp trek. My girlfriend and I thought the version we did of the Everest trek was the best. The landscape was so different to anything we'd experienced before and the route was only crowded until namche after that it went off in a different direction to the main one. If you want anymore info on that one just PM me.
The other thing I'd say is that hiring a guide or porter is not necessary but it is about the best thing you as a walker can do for the country. It's not expensive and it is unbelievably appreciated. -

Hugo, - that is the sort of handlebar to seat height i'd really like.
I think i'm going to have to change the stem, damn it!
thanks for the basket info. i'll have a look.
