Right, you 'orrible lot have seduced me with your firm yet squishy 29" orbs and I've got the go-ahead for a birthday project.
So...I have a 3 or 4 year old Giant MTB that has seen very little use and has reasonably decent Deore components. My idea was to get hold of a 29er frameset and transfer as much as I could from the Giant to save some squids. Choice of frame is down to the Surly Karate Monkey and the Singular Swift with my current preference going to the Swift as it's slightly bigger (I'm really tall), only a little bit more expensive and I think it looks nicer.
In terms of transferring components, I know I will definitely need a new BB and headset (don't want the hassle of removing the Giant one tbh) but I think I should be able to reuse all of the drivetrain and brakes with no real hassles.
For wheels, I am torn between re-lacing the current hubs to 29er rims or just getting some new hubs and leaving the old ones alone. If I get new hubs they'd have to be really quite cheap - any suggestions?
Any other tips, gotchas etc?

I have a friend (single, female) who has lived just 'round the corner for years. Like previously mentioned, it's not particularly nice but she hasn't had any grief.
Hello Westerners, bit of advice needed from you chaps:
A friend and I are thinking of moving to your neck of the woods and was looking for a little insight in the area we'd be living in. The flat we're looking at is in Hudson Close, White City. (see link)
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Hudson+Close,+White+City&sll=51.544956,-0.219306&sspn=0.006339,0.017574&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Hudson+Close,+White+City+Estate,+London+W12,+United+Kingdom&ll=51.513176,-0.230927&spn=0.006343,0.017574&z=16Opinions on the area? (baring in mind I'll be moving in with a girl, and she'd like to feel safe at night walking back from the bus/tube). Decent pubs/cafe's etc?
Sorry to use you for such purposes, but I figure if anyone will know it's you lot. And it's always best to find out as much about a property you're buying!

Interesting. I am doing this version which, tbh, is basically just Starting Strength but with weekly rather than per-session weight increases.
The author does note that this version is adapted for people who don't know the Olympic lifts (which I don't).
How different is the program I posted above from what's in the book?
Be careful with the starr's 5x5 programming. The stuff you find on the net is bastardised and been through the hands of several generations of bros adding extra shit for their guns.
Starr was all about the powerclean as the core exercise. I have his book, let me know if you need to know anything.

That looks really good actually.
This is a what I would use on a Mac.

I'm just a fusty old *nix guy so maybe I'm being hopelessly out-of-date here but if you're learning from the ground-up then surely it would be best to start with the code, no? In which case, all you need is a text editor and a web server.
I'm perfectly willing to be corrected on this if it's not how the "kids" are doing it these days btw.
Cheers BQ. I'm wondering if DW would be a good intro to coding. I'm a complete beginner so have a long way to go.

The consensus was that those electronic scales were pretty unreliable I thought?
My scales are lying to me, my belly is now smaller and there is evidence of new muscle formation yet the scales claim the fat % to be the same.
The only thing I can think of is that they measure only visceral fat and that is not going down with the wobbly belly, or I should just ignore them.
I am leaning toward ignore as they say muscle % is still the same which is untrue.

@Nahguavkire 2 x bodyweight squats is bloody impressive. I still haven't cracked 1x bodyweight :-/
I am back to the gym after three week off. I've decided to try something new. After 4 months on 5/3/1 I was having no issues with recovery but my progress was slower than it needed to be so I'm trying the intermediate version of Starr's 5x5. I'm on my second week now and feeling pretty good.

...somewhat of a long-shot but I thought I'd ask anyway:
Looking for a frame/frameset for a 29er project on the cheap. I've considered the On-One Scandal and Surly Karate Monkey to give you an idea of the type of thing I'm after but thought I'd check here to see if anyone had something like this they wanted to sell (and maybe save a few squids). Only caveat is that I absolutely need the biggest frame size available so XL/22"(or bigger) only need apply.

I love it. It's like drinking a barbecue. I wouldn't call it a soothing, rainy-evening-in-front-of-the-fire kind of dram but I find it very rewarding.
unharmed - what's your impression of the Corryvreckan? I've got a bottle of Uigeadail on its last legs (loved it) and looking for the next one, and that bottle was on the short list.

Thanks, man. I'll be at coffee in about half an hour I reckon.
Frame was ordered yesterday. Haven't got an indication on ETA from them yet. This morning's task will be to start sourcing the other bits I need.
