ok so just took frame and headset to lock 7 and the guy said the lower head race was too used to use again, any idea where id get one for shimano 600 headset or is it beter to just get a new headset..?
IIRC 600 headsets have very low stack height so you might find a replacement tricky to find (unless you have spacers fitted)
Campag pista (£££) and Tange Levin (still made I think) are options. -
I'm hoping to finish off restoring 2 1950s Gillotts this summer.
(A track/path Fleur de lys and a road Connoisseur).
They're going to be proper period correct with mostly new or excellent parts (Gnutti Simplex Chater Lea etc)
Problem is I don't have space to store them.
I wondered if a bike shop or LMNH might be interested in having them on display, so when I want to ride them I can but they're not hanging on my walls driving my Mrs nuts ( I would be quite happy to sit and stare at them)
Is this bonkers, is it something people with too many bikes (?) do already?
Or should I just persuade the old girl they're home decor? -
I'm 6 foot 2, have a 59cm frame. What height should I be looking to have my saddle.
1 measure your inseam (stand bare foot against a wall and stick a book right up into your bits, mark the wall at the top of the book, measure)
2 find 109% of this measurement
3 set your saddle at this height from pedal to saddle top.
4 ride around and see how it feels
5 if you get back of knee pain your saddle's probably too high
6 if you get front of knee pain your saddle's probably too low
7 the last two points may be the wrong way round -
So, I've just hand drawn a dinner plate sized version of the roundel using a tracing of a blown up (cornershop photocopier) image from a catalogue reprint I had and loads of photos of my frame for reference.
I used my daughter's Crayola felt tip which gave just the right fucked-up-ness of line, really pretty happy with it.Question; If this is 'live traced' into illustrator how much of the line quality will I get? Does the program snap lines straight or is it possible -though laborious- to follow each change in line thickness and angle?
Ta.

With a big chunk from lottery ticket sales though, which is an easier choice to spend on than schools and hospitals which should be funded by the state and not on someone's idle speculation that a £1 flutter could make them a squillionaire.
Public cost for Beijing was still 40%. I dont know if that % has increased but the total has- stratospherically.
I agree that funding for health and education should come from the public purse not from the Lottery.
It's an enormous amount to spend whatever the source.

Yes, they are.
LVC can come at really low prices.
Again, I shop everything from ebay. Where you get away paying peanuts.Me too.
Got 2 pairs of LVC 1967 505s which are great jeans. Both about £90
and bought used pairs of '47 and '54 LVC 501s for peanuts both with little wear -one wash. I don't really like the cut of the 54s but the 47's are great - prefer the 505s though. The quality difference between the made in USA 47's and the 505 (turkey) is not noticeable to me and the cut is very similar - the 505's abit more Mod.

I like pubs too.
I'm trying to imagine the bar staff at the Blythe Hill Tavern refusing someone a glass of water.Toys hill is a v popular with cyclists so I can see it could become annoying if there is a constant stream of riders clutching 'bidons' and not buying anything.
But really it's a glass of fucking water - I bet he wouldn't refuse some walkers with an overheating dog.I've gone into the pub in Downe before for a refill and the bar staff were charming. I don't make a habit of it though, I'd normally fill up at the public toilets on Ide hill when I'm out that way but I only went on a short blat today.

That looks like the little fucker- Does it have caged balls? I think they've got a 33 mm stack height -which is very low. I might have one in the loft, if you're stuck.
They're not very good but are a problem solver. As you have the headset off you can measure the stack height (difference between steerer and head tube lengths) and see what you need. Is the rest of the bike 600?
