Done and ordered. 3.5ghz, 8gb, 256 ssd Retina. 12% off for higher edu discount, but couldn't get them to accept the existance of 6 year h/w warranty at all. Slightly nervous now as I wait...never used a Mac and it's a lot of cash to throw on the gamble of a success switch from Windows.
Feel like I'd been kicked in the nuts a bit though when it only dawned on me afterward to check out the keyboard and discovered that it's £50 extra for a damn numeric pad!

Haven't seen this before.

Okay, I've ummed and ahhed and decide a retina iMac is the way forward and will be buying in the coming weeks. What's the craic with the smart buying of Macs? I can get educational discount through the OU. Will that always be my best bet or one from the refurb shop. I've never looked at them before so don't know whether they come up in retail sales or web offers from 3rd party sellers etc.

Hate helix/twisted tubes, curved seat stays, v-shape at bar/hood junction, EE brakes, Enve wheels, mixing modern bike with 'classic' brown leather contact points.
Strongly dislike curved seat tubes, Enve stems, FSA components, black/silver crank and ring combos.
Seriously bored of unpainted Ti with black components.
Yet for some reason, I can't stop looking at this bike and have decided that I love it.

Highlight of today: running across the mighty @steve_abraham74 riding along at 19mph. Up a hill. Into a headwind. In the 9th hr of his ride.

Been after one of these since last Novemeber (about a week after they were discontinued!) and this is the first I've seen in any size. Sadly, I need an XL :(

Well, I got to compare the iMac and iMac 5k side by side. And I'm still no closer to a decision. There is a definite difference and looking closely it becomes apparent, but really it's only very minor and for anything other than serious 4k video editing, I can't see that it'd make any difference.
Saying that, now that I've seen it, would I pay the £350-400 premium over a non-5k iMac? Yeah, I would. The question is, would I pay the £800-900 premium over the PC equivalent of the non-5k iMac? Highly unlikely. But then for that £900 extra, you get the rest of the benefits of having a Mac, so I'm still on the fence.

has the too much ipa debate been had yet
Does my nut in. My local which is supposedly a 'proper beer' pub has 5 pumps of guest ales, each one changed weekly. Every week it's 5 IPAs or 4 IPAs and a light summer ale. All of which taste like potporri blended into pickle juice. You'll be lucky to get 2 bitters and 1 porter/stout out of every 40 ales that come through the place. Angers me no end.

The HP seems a little overkill and would probably work out more expensive.
I'm a little torn with the 5k thing. I've never actually seen one and wonder whether I should keep it that way, get a cheap all-in-one PC or cheaper iMac and be happy. But then I think about how thought I didn't need Retina on my iPhone either, but now when I look at the old pre-Retina Touch I have for a music dock, it looks like a low res screen that's under water and covered in vasiline and I can't imagine how it was ever considered acceptable.

This may be more of an anti-Mac question, so sorry, but is there (or is there likely to be any time soon), a PC equivalent to a 27" 5K iMac? I just assumed there'd be something with equivalent or slightly better hardware available, probably at about 66% of the price, but am drawing blanks. Is there not a 'high-end' all-in-one market?

Yeah, it's taken so long coming that I'd forgotten about SRAM. That seems like the most sensible option, though it would leave me with ugly unused cable stops, and probably cost a million pounds, whereas whenever it's Christmas/Easter/Autumn/random Friday Ribble/Merlin seem to virtually give away Di2 kits.
-
Okay, I'm finally coming round to the idea of electronic and my 'good' bike is approaching the point of needing a new group or, at least, gear set but I have neither the desire or funds to replace the frame and it's not Di2 compatible (without the horrible full external wiring setup anyway).
So, what are the options for getting fully internal (wires and battery) Di2 set up into a 2012 Cervelo R5? All my Googling leads me to threads dating back to 2011 and the such - I guess that makes sense since most frames after that will be Di2 ready. I know Calfree offer a service, but I'd like cheap (ish) and UK based.
Just wondering whether there was an accepted best route to take or company to deal with? Or is DA9000 mechanical going to be the better option. I'd hoped that this frame would see me out until the point that I'd grow past being a pro race wannabe and settle into cycling Scoble-style.

I think that De Rosa is one of the ugliest abominations I've ever laid eyes on.
Not sure I'll ever get used to seat stays without a brake bridge.
