I'm going to start running again this year, haven't done anything organised since I was a sprinter in school. Used to love running so want to be able to do more than wheeze to a standstill everytime I try to run more than a couple of meters
got dodgy knees, pin in one, and dislocated the other. But have exercises to strengthen them and went and bought some expensive trainers, and was told by my physio to run on grass rather than concrete so will do that as well.

any advice on good running apps, or beginners guides to running, forgive me I haven't read back through the previous pages. Going to do the run/walk thing, and am hoping to get out twice a week to run round either battersea park or clapham common, probably the common.

It's really good fun. I did it last year, and the Picnic the year before. Coming down to the finish of the Munro, knowing that you have to turn round and go back up the hill again to complete the picnic, is a special kind of pain.

My brother has just bought a house in france, in the alps. It's in a small hamlet of four or five houses and in the middle of the place is a little concrete bunker type of thing. Apparently, it's a cap over some kind of fault line in the rock, through which gas constantly escapes under pressure. The gas is not trapped or burned, but is used to spin a turbine and generates enough power that all the houses in the hamlet have free electric central heating.
This sounds genius. Why have I never heard of this before? What kind of gas would it be? I assume it's not flammable, as burning it would surely be more efficient than turning a propeller in a tube...

It's very well written and fascinating. I now have to go the the British Museum to look at all the things.

The book is enormous though, it's like sitting with a breeze-block on your lap.

New macbook battery has died after less than a fucking week. What a piece of shit.

How cold is your room? My macbook won't fire up if the temperature is low. Try taking the battery out and warming it up for a few minutes in your clothes.

I've just had to get out of bed and and go into the garden to tell them to shut the fuck up (I used those actual words), because they thought 11:40 on Christmas eve was a good time to demonstrate their new exhaust on their KTM Duke.

I love a loud exhaust myself, but jesus christ, it's the middle of the bloody night, and the bike is in a shed about four feet from my bedroom window.
