I know but Ihope there is one out there somewhere. It was a choice between an Alan Shorter or a Carpenter in 1963 when I wanted a frame built. The Shorter was bought but after the restoration is done I fancy a Carpenter.

While you may be able to centre punch and the get a drill hole to be able to get a "easyout" on to
the broken end it may well not work. Put the stem in boiling water to get it as hot as possible as the Ali will expand more than the steel.

Do not try to do this with a hand drill you need a proper engineers drill with a decent vice to grip the stem in.

The other way is to find company with a spark eroding machine and ask them to remove the broken part.

If you have the registration number then you can look up to see if the vehicle corresponds to what you have taken a photo of. Just put vehicle tax in a search engine and you get the .gov web site.
If it does not match then go to the police as it may well be uninsured as well.

Posibly another option is to find a general metal working place that can tig weld it up. The heat will be very localised and you will lose less chrome. The person I would use to do it would probably be £10-00 at the most and he would do it while I waited.

When I was time trialing many years ago I fancied a Carpenter track frame, went with Alan Shorters so never had a Carpenter - now getting late in life I would like to buy one just to fullfill a wish. First you need to kill the rust
If you can get it in a small enough quantity " Vactan " works well.
If not any other rust killer ( diy place should have some ) will do the job.
Once rust has turned black you need to first wash the area off with Methelayted spirits, then coat it with some paint to stop the rust returning

Have you considered water jet cutting as another way to get this done.

you would need to get to either Headcorn or Lenham on the Saturday morning and travel with us - the euro tunnel train is already booked.
We go to the city de Europe for shopping and a meal then to Adinkerke for more shopping, then up to Ghent for the cycling. All are respectable and two are ex cyclists.
We are friendly and you would not feel left out.
Total cost is roughly £30 per ticket, train just under £30 ( for two ) plus a bit towards petrol.
