It sounds as though it has been previously repaired using a thread insert (helicoil) if you can find someone who has the correct size size insert, they should be able to install a new one without much difficulty.
Well, the current ride is a Boardman Urban Pro in a very generic "large" size - had to raise the seat a bit but it works fine! My last bike was a 22" which equals 48.6 or something very similar - 60cm will be huge.
Are you sure to the best of my knowledge 22" equates to 55cm or thereabouts?
it's only 13 miles from kelvedon to mersea, I will do the carry out but you will have to cycle to Herne Hill to pay me first and then collect from HH or Liverpool st. Are you sure you can ride that far? remember it might be cloudy.
The length of the bottom bracket axle is the main form of adjusting your chainline, the shell width refers to the frame fitment (italian/english),so you really need to work out your chainline before purchasing a BB. There is a very useful chainline database somewhere on lfgss.
miche are forged construction one of the few, forging produces a stronger product (ignore the haters). I have done 3000 miles on mine with no problem. Building them up is no issue.
