I want to get a better brake on old 27" wheel and old 531 frame,
would like to try dual pivot one on old frame,
will it work?
is there enough clearance for older 27 by 1.25 tyres and reach from brake hole in fork? measured it and i need about 53 to 57 mm front and 61 to 64 mm rear ?

I am after a pair of QR 27 inch wheels 126mm rear and 100 front , alloy rims, alloy hubs,
to build a geared bike
rear can be freewheel
but would prefer a 126mm freehub wheel if any one has got one

i thought with lots of people changing to fixed there might be some freehub or freewheel wheels about

Mercian tell me this a is "Mercian King " model vertex BB and all 531 tubing and built in 1953. resprayed by them in 1964

so it is nearly stripped now a bit more paint to come off and then start preparing it

i think i will do it green white and gold and go for a tour in Ireland on it !!

interestingly it says width of leather is 7.5 cm so cut to that and make holes as per pictures

old leather steering wheel cover or part of an old leather jacket or coat or chesterfield settee, there's lots of ways to get the leather

the clever thing would e if anyone with the kit put it down on some pattern paper or card and cut a pattern including the holes etc e and then that could be a master for another time

Anyone know what the rectangular lug at the back of the seat tube is for??

i have done my own bike resprays for over 30 years now , down to bare metal fine rub down rust proof primer 3 coats of paint 2 coats of lacquer

whats wrong with that ? not as hard as stove enamel but good enough for me. if when bike is all done i really feel it would benefit form a mercian paint job in a few years i can take it to bits and strip frame to metal again and get them to do it.

They screw off anti-clockwise, with the use of a 1/8th chainwhip.

It must be NOS ones that are pricey, then.

Looks like an old one, I'd get a Mercian respray in original colours and fit a vintage* groupset (doesn't have to be expensive, an older Shimano 600 set or something)

i spoke with mercian this morning and they reckon it is 1961 or 1964 i have emailed them some pictures and they are going to get back to me

i might paint it myself like my old falcon that i have just done, that is a 1964

hi there i dont ride fixed any more myself as i am getting on a bit so i shall clean up the wheel and take some pics. it has a fixed cog on each side it has very old tubeless tyres on it at the moment and i shall take them off - they are like rock ! - and clean the rims, the spokes are quite rusty but i shall see if they clean up

how can i tell if it is a track hub ??
