Thinning down my bicycle collection and unfortunately this lovely Jack Taylor is too small for me.
This is a 1967 Jack Taylor Marathon bike the frame number is 5583. The frame is lugless as are the forks, seat tube is 22.5” from centre to top and the top tube is 22.5” from centre to centre looking at braze on fittings it is easy to tell that Jack Taylors were ahead of their time with central rear brake braze ons and under bottom bracket cable guides and under rear chain stay cable stop, things which were not seen on other British frames until the 1980s. The wheels are 700c with Zeus large flange hubs and FIR Italian rims, Zeus chainset, Campagnolo Record rear mech and Triplex sport front and levers, Cinelli stem, GB handlebars, Mafac brakes and a Brooks B5 saddle.
Having been fortunate to own several Jack Taylor and ridden quite a few more, this is one of the most responsive Jack Taylors I have ever ridden. It is 53 years old and the original paintwork is showing its age and it could do with replacement brake levers.
I am looking for £350, on here before going on eBay and it can be collect from near the big Tesco’s at Bromley by Bow or I am happy to ride it into town.
I do not know much of its history. It came from a lady who lives near Stockton on Tees and her ex left it in her shed and I bought it years later.
Further details of Jack Taylor Cycles can be found here http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/designs/hsjacktaylor.html
