Figured i'd get better advice here than current projects (feel free to aim me in the direction of the correct thread)

^ British eagle shadow 531 MTB - Building it as SS for light offroad use (towpaths, and river trails, no mountains near here) and pub bike duties. Not finished yet obviously.
Question - I like the idea of dirt drops - midges most likely. But obviously the frame's not got the best geometry for it (and it's about an inch or so to small) would it be a stupid idea? (i've got my eye on a massive rise dutch bike style quill to get the bars high enough)

Carlton Track 531
52cm

Would like to sell locally + as a whole - Would consider splitting if someone wanted the frame and someone wanted the wheels. Viewings welcome.
***Specifications:
Carlton Reynolds 531 Track Frame (Worksop built Mid 70's) 52cm ST. Has same 'CC' cutout bottom bracket as the Raleigh Team Pro tracks of the time.
Drilled Campagnolo Ends. Non original 531 Chrome road forks with Campagnolo ends. Tange headset.
Maillard Double fixed hub + Rigida rims + Nearly new Schwalbe gumwalls.
Dirty Harry, Ultegra caliper with Swiss stop pads.
Sakae stem, Zoom alloy bars, Antique brown Fizik tape, Brooks Pro Saddle (stamped 67)
Silstar 165mm fluted Crankset (converted road) Can throw in a NOS SR 45t chainring + 18t sprocket because the gearings a little low (40/16)
SPD's pedals not included - Will add some cheapies for sale. This rides beautifully even on longer ones - Would love to keep it as it's hard to find nice track frames in this size, but I've got a Raleigh Panasonic Team replica that needs expensive attention.
Any Questions Please ask!

^ been riding a bit of the canals on my ss mtb recently, the problem I've found is there so inconsistent, even in a couple of miles you can encounter various qualitys of surface, ranging from stuff that would be fine on a road bike (theres a bit on the grand union that's concrete slabs) to stuff thats pretty sketchy - good fun if your'e bike can handle it

I'm looking for some 26'' tyres for a rigid mtb, for use on road through the winter (Birmingham, so lots of rain) 1.5 - 1.95 ideally, with decent grip and puncture proofness, nothing to heavy. I've got a pair of knobblies for when it gets snowy, so they won't need to deal with that.
I'm looking at schwalbe city jet's, but have heard bad thing about the performance in wet - any other suggestions?

Raleigh Team Pro 84'
531 Professional Tubing
SBDU Gerald O'Donovan Built
Team Panasonic ColoursI'm gonna hacksaw off all the Braze on's and get it powdercoated maybe weld some track ends on
/trollinI'm in a quandry with what to do with it - I got it for a song and couldn't reisist buying it (and I've never seen one this small) Ideally it needs a couple of dings filling and a respray and then built up with some nice parts - But until I can afford that I'm tempted to stick some cheaper period shimano on it and ride it like that. (the wheels are tricolor hubs- Yes, I'm aware the rear wheel is in the wrong way round)
