Cyclists: A High Court judge once ruled that a cyclist is entitled to wobble. Drivers should have more control over their vehicles than cyclists who are dependent upon physical strength and effort to pilot their machines.
http://www.theorytestadvice.co.uk/hazard-perception-test/hazard-perception-lessons.php
The lorry driver is admitting he's unable to pass a cyclist safely.
This is piss poor tv, it adds nothing to have drivers make up statistics and facts that blame cyclists.

Synopsis:
[clip of alley-cat – 0’20”]
Right, get the misrepresentation in early.
“The battle between 2 wheels and 4 has never been so intense” [another alleycat clip 1.13]
That means nothing and is probably not true. Things are much better than they were fifteen years ago.
“There is of course another side to the story” Interview with cabbie, Alfie, age 77. Length of time, cyclists behaviour, one who spat in his face, doesn’t get involved, some people can’t control themselves, want to kill the f-in’ … that’s human nature. [5.25]
Unverifiable anecdotes from cabbies, lovely.
[8.13] Back to CycleGaz as cabbie gets out. Switching between the two. Cyclegaz talking about how drivers respond when you touch their vehicle – it shows he was too close. Cabbie still ranting. “Did I over-react? Maybe I did. But I’m just going about my business” – seen getting back in cab
If the cabbie just wanted to go about his business why did he deliberately steer into the cyclist then get out and assault him? Why did nobody ask him this?
“As our roads become busier every year, the number of reported incidents between cyclists and motorists is on the rise.”
Evidence?
Another clip of driver threatening behaviour. “Dealing with any incident in our cities is getting increasingly difficult.
There we go again, no actual evidence, just lofty pronouncements that things are worse and cyclists risk getting beaten up if they venture out on a bike.
Back to cabbie.
He bets cyclist will jump lights, he does – “yes I won”. If I do that, CCTV picks me up, £60 fine. Dearth of policemen where bikes are concerned.
Any actual evidence? Like how cyclists in The City get ticketed for RLJing more than drivers do once you allow for the percentages.
20.00 Many cyclists feel the threat, even when they are in the cycle lane.[ Bus goes past too close]
“In response some are trying to protect themselves are taking over the road, even if it means annoying other road users.
"Taking over the road"? Or riding in accord with national standards to avoid dangerous overtakes?
53.55 Narrator: “Not all cyclists jump red lights, but for some it’s a way of life”
Yep, only cyclists jump reds.
Cormac: (on Brunelle) They are doing more harm to other cyclists than they can possibly imagine. I’m afraid my instant reaction to that is, do you know what, that sometimes if you get out of your car and punch a cyclist in the head who did this, it might be a good idea after all.”
Lovely.
Lorry driver: [footage of cyclist with kid on Boris bike] “How can I as a driver defend against that? One wobble, one slip, they’d be under my wheels. I’d be devastated. The driver would go through untold court appearances and stress, all because somebody didn’t act responsibly to use the roads properly”
Cyclists have a "wobble room" enshrined in case law, any competent driver would know the Highway Code- that you leave enough room for the cyclist that if they toppled sideways you'd miss them. Quite a few drivers have killed cyclists and not been charged with anything!
Cyclists aren’t only to blame, probably two thirds to blame, the Government’s to blame, bad drivers are to blame. But the answer is don’t drive a car and don’t ride a bloody bike.
Two thirds to blame? And nobody challenged that?
There we have it, a load of dangerous, ignorant, victim-blaming garbage from those world-famous experts on cycling, the makers of Cash In The Attic.
This really is shit on toast.

The Indy's take;
http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/comment/there-is-room-on-a-bike-for-a-code-of-conduct-8373772.htmlSeriously, why is so much journalism so piss-poor when it comes to cycling?
As increasing numbers of would-be Victoria Pendletons and Bradley Wigginses take to the roads, Robin Harvie explains why the cyclist mindset needs to change
WTF is the "cyclist mindset" and how am I supposed to change it? Why say cyclists have to change when they are rarely the cause of accidents?
The article starts with an implausible anecdote about a New York cyclist who was completely invisible going the wrong way through a red light up a one-way street twice punching kittens. What's that got to do with me?
It is now a common sight to have 30 or more cyclists lined up and ready to jump the lights before they turn, trying to steal a march on the commuter traffic, but also each other. I should know. I'm one.
OK, the author jumps red lights and calls for cyclists to change their behaviour, right-o.
As one interviewee says, it's really exciting to "look down at your speedometer and see that you're going at 30 miles an hour". I'm sorry, but if you're going to travel that fast through busy streets, you are asking for trouble.
I sometimes get to 30mph, does that mean it's my fault if there's an accident? Fancy applying that rule to motor vehicles?
we would be doing ourselves a favour by remembering that motorists don't have our interests at heart. Would it be too much trouble to raise an arm in acknowledgement when a taxi lets us through, or a cement mixer doesn't turn in front of us?
That's his plan? If we wave at lorry drivers we'll be safe? I already thank drivers if they let me out, what else am I supposed to do?
we owe it to the next generation of road-users to teach them how to behave on the roads. If we don't, we risk undoing all that makes cycling in this country an enjoyable way of passing the time between work and home, and turning it into the nightmare on Fifth Avenue that commuters there live with every day.
A penis on a bike in another country has got nothing to do with me, and is Fifth Avenue really a "nightmare" because of cyclists? Really?

Stop jumping redlights then, you big penis.

The trailer was just on BBC1. They show a fat cabbie complaining about something or other, Gaz's screaming cabbie and a Range Rover smidsy, then it jump cuts to the Brunelle footage, the direct implication being "That's how cyclists behave" , and I'm afraid the conclusion drawn by many will be "Well, if they insist on cycling like that!".
Shabby and inflammatory, from just the trailer.

I had to cycle across the city after Norwich's last home game, people were driving like maniacs, they HAVE to get home as fast as possible and were taking absurd risks, horrible. A couple of hit-and-runs recently too, a cyclist doored on Pottergate and a chap badly hurt on a roundabout, let's be careful out there.

The ticketing cyclist is Son Of The Winds, I think:
If All Cabbies Were like Him. - YouTube
Love that cabbie, what a geezer, right down to that waddling cockney strut, bless his heart!

The film presents both sides of the story, retelling dramatic incidents from both the cyclists’ and drivers’ points of view. It follows the cycle-mounted police as they chase down errant road users and record more than 3,000 offences every year from car and bike users alike. We even see a cyclist who is attempting to police the roads himself, handing out his own 'tickets' for anything from texting behind the wheel, to jumping a red light. A mother who lost her cyclist daughter in a fatal collision with a cement mixer tells the extraordinary story of her efforts to improve cycle safety on our roads, while a London black cab driver reveals how his own loss changed his opinion about cyclists forever.
Can't find the trailer, sorry.

Received this standard sit on the fence letter from Nicholas Soames this afternoon.../attachments/61265
The point is that if someone ends up hurt or dead then by definition the action was dangerous.
I think it was Fatty Soames who had an ex-lover who described sex with him as like having a wardrobe fall on you with the key still in the door.

Well, she's being discussed in other places ... Non-cyclists are about as flattering about her as folk have been here.

Most drivers are decent, so I give much more thumbs than fingers.

Mr Florey’s best friend and colleague Barry Marsh, 40, said: “He was a doting father and lived for his family. He was a bubbly guy but above all a perfect gentleman. Everybody liked him and he was a genuine, straightforward nice man and a great friend.
“He was a good cyclist who rode for a club, he knew what he was doing and had all the gear and was as fit as a fiddle.”
He added: “We worked together for the fire brigade and were on the same shift. He was very popular at work and would help anyone out. We are all devastated by the loss.”

http://www.guardian-series.co.uk/news/wfnews/10058809.Motorist_charged_with_killing_cyclist/
A MOTORIST is due to appear in court today accused of killing a cyclist.
Jonathan Baird, 63, of Margaret Avenue in Chingford, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving over the death of 41-year-old Frank Mugisha.
Mr Mugisha, a father-of-four from Enfield, died in hospital six days after a crash in White Hart Lane, Tottenham, on March 27.
Mr Baird is scheduled to appear at Haringey Magistrates Court.
That Range Rover roundabout pull out, I would have just used my brakes. It happens. Gareth is a bit shouty.
