Beer involved.

Aww!*You ruined it by being a giant pussy whining on about your hurt feelings!
Stop crying! You made a blog calling random people cunts, which makes you a cunt, you take secret photos of people, which makes you a bit weird, you say things like 'i cant walk down the street any more', which makes you sound like a dick, but c'mon, the people in your photos dont get a chance to explain themselves, so spare us the fucking Morrisey. .......*
is awesome.

Hi guys
Have had to pull out of this MTB enduro with my fella due to massive mechanical failings (on the bike) and a father arriving on a whim that weekend.
We paid £120 for 2 x Solo Entries (24hrs)
The entries closed some time ago and this event is v. popular, and full!
Drop me a line if you would like to buy our spaces off us.
The organisers have confirmed that it is ok to do this, as long as the original entrant arranges the name change.

Just rode past, before the art college, there are heaps of emergency services out, residents on the street, police tape, helicopters, and a big crane going up to one of the top floors in one of the estates.
:(
can't find much online other than twitter reports of 'fire on wilson rd in camberwell'
there have been a lot of these lately.
fingers crossed they got there on time.

also I should add that Brent from Rollapaluza (not sure of his forum name? ) was the only one of us who stuck out the whole race and he finished in the second bunch. it was his first race ever as well so was v. impressed with that performance.
We watched the 1/2/3 race that followed and rode back to town with illy, who was riding in it.

so, this weekend, after the first half of 2010 being eclipsed by illness, tiredness and general too-much-to-do--ness, I FINALLY tried my hand at a race at Hog Hill.
Was one of six women, with 30 or so men....
3 of the women were elite, and they dropped me within the first half of the first lap, which was unsurprising, although I didn't know their status before we started so spent most of the time on the bike feeling like a total weakling and wondering when it would all be over!!
I managed to stick with one of the other women into my 2nd lap and from then, I was utterly alone. The hill at the end of the lap completely killed me every time. Given that I climb precisely NO hills most of the time, this is also not that surprising.
Shortly afterwards I was lapped by the mens race, and later, lapped again, with encouraging shouts coming from fellow rolla's Sean and Tom.
After my fourth lap I felt like I was going to have a heart attack so I stopped after the climb. Then the official encouraged me to treat it as a training ride so I took another lap.
Reaching the top of the horrible hill I saw Sean sitting down by his bike and gladly pulled in to join him and watch the rest of the race.
I was so impressed by the strength of the women, and a bit annoyed at myself for laming out, but mainly glad to have finally got around to trying it out.
The women later came over and asked what happened, and offered lots of advice on what to do to get stronger. One of them was a MTB Masters Champ, and they had been racing together for years so I felt marginally less lame for being dropped so fast.
To be honest, the ride out to Redbridge was enough for me in that baking heat, never mind doing 20 laps of the course.
Fun times.

Did 2hrs today with Will. Started out on some basic bike checks, positioning, emergency stops, getting onto the road away from the curb. He pointed out that I had a bad 'scooting' habit that I hadn't even really thought about before....scooting along with my right foot instead of just setting off with my left at 10'oclock. Seems obvious but I've been doing that a fair bit totally unconsciously.
Then we checked out my ability to look behind me without wobbling, with an exercise reading how many fingers he was holding up. All fine!
Went down the road to discuss junctions. I learned that I am too defensive and even though I thought I don't hug the curb, I still need to be even more central in the lane. Some really good common sense advise about road-positioning that seems to have evaded me due to bad habits such as not always taking the lane, and not paying enough attention to visibility of traffic beyond parked cars etc, but was nice to learn I have some good habits too, checking behind enough, holding my line....
We then went down through Parliament Sq, on to Whitehall. Here was what I wanted to learn the most about : Roundabouts. I just do what I think I am meant to do but was always unsure about lane changes etc and I don't drive so have never had any formal 'rules of the road' knowledge. Was good to learn that I am doing it right, although he emphasised that I need to be looking more at roads joining the roundabouts, and making more eye contact with drivers. I definitely shy away from making eye contact with drivers and have fallen into lazy signalling habits too, and after this two hours, I saw and experienced the the benefit of very assertive riding.
We went through the underpass towards Knightsbridge, and again I got to practice taking the lane, planning ahead and clear signalling.
We ended up in Hyde Park corner, did one loop of the roundabout which was negotiated through eye contact with drivers and instead of waiting for ages I managed to get into the lane I needed to be in much quicker than I usually feel I do. We sat down and had a chat about the lesson. In all it was a great experience, it was good to have someone suggest areas I need to pay attention to, and also to have confirmation that I am a relatively competent cyclist and that sometimes aggro is just aggro, and not to take it personally (as I tend to do, which spoils an otherwise enjoyable ride home!)
I think it's definitely a good idea for anyone to try this, and Will was an extremely knowledgeable and likeable teacher, with an easy manner, clear instructions, and good banter.

a mate won a free trip to africa through his work... got bit by something, thought little of it at the time... two weeks after he's back he's sitting watching TV and his arms starts itching like fuck, so he scratches it... then he sees movement under the skin... then a few minutes of freaking out later a big nasty fuck-off grub-thing pops out... at which point he starts dry retching and has to collect the fucker in a jar to take it to a+e with him.
nightmare scenario. really one of the things that puts me off going to 'exotic' places-I'm like mozzer sex pheromones as it is without playing mummy to some stinking alien-like carrion fly.
that just made me get sick a little in my mouth.
URGHHHHH.
is anyone else having some crazy Attack of The Killer Moths in their house?? The last day or two, maybe it is the heat, but jeebus!! I was literally fighting with a giant moth for about 15 mins in my room last night. The fucker kept flying at me and it's erratic flight path made it impossible to kill the thing. Got two of them, closed my window, went to sleep and next thing I know there's a little mini moth flying around.
Creepy things.

One more thing which DJ brought up after his cycling training - if you let go of the handlebar on the side you want to scan, it will give you more room to turn your head around, which is important when joining in the moving traffic or making a rapid turn/u-turn.
definitely.
I fail to do this alot and actually it was james feedback that drew to my attention that I tend to veer out to the right a bit whenever I look over my shoulder.
Have my cycle training with Will tomorrow. Looking forward to it and hope I don't turn out to be London's Worst Cyclist!
