Yep - Charge saddle and tape was my attempt at a similar look on a smaller budget, but you're right, it would look lovely with the real thing. It's a really nice bike to ride - too small for me - but I've ridden it around when I was setting up the gears etc and it has a real old-world charm to it, but with the new wheels and a decent number of gears then it's plenty useable as a day-to-day ride.

Afternoon all. The mrs doesn’t ride this that much so we’ve decided to sell it. Rather pretty vintage 14-spd bike from Rudi Altig, perhaps one of cycling's classic dudes . It’s a lugged steel frame with original paintwork and decals.

Since buying it I’ve modernised it a little:
- new vaguely-aero wheels, bought these in France, bladed spokes, nothing fancy but they’ve run smooth and true ever since.
- new tyres, white Vittoria Zaffiro, probably done less than 200 miles.
- new handlebar, it’s a Velo Orange one, the Porteur I think
- new saddle, Charge Stool
- new bar-tape, also Charge, matching colour to saddle
- new 7-spd cassette (was 5) and I think I put all new cables on too.
The downtube shifters, derailleurs and brakes are all original and work well, no issues there.
Top tube 580mm, seat tube 530mm, so long but fairly low. Works well with the swept back bars for the wife, who's 5″7; would be ok for someone a bit taller too.
Weight is a little over 12kg.
Added bonus – it has the world’s smallest mudguards.
Looking for £300. We're in Bath. Let me know if you'd like more info or pictures or whatever. - new vaguely-aero wheels, bought these in France, bladed spokes, nothing fancy but they’ve run smooth and true ever since.

join the (rather select) club. i bought a nice Rudi Altig that doesn't look too dissimilar to yours a month or so ago, and have been setting it up for the mrs. just finished it a couple of days ago.
there's some pics here

we paid £100 for the bike, have upgraded the wheels, bars and so on, so I think your price is probably fair. doesn't appear that they are particularly high-end machines, so I wouldn't expect them to go for big money.

anyone (with a passport) familiar with Lucien Aimar?

regarding insurers giving you vouchers - i had a 4 bike claim last year on norwich union. it was a total pain in the arse - i had paid for the additional bike cover, and they tried to cheat me by saying i was still limited to a total claim of £1500 for everything in the shed. the bike add-on supposedly covered them for £1500 per bike anywhere in the world, and it took ages and lots of calls to india to convince them that my shed was in the world.
anyway, the point being - they tried their utmost to replace my bikes with halfords, and insisted that was the only offer on the table, but in end gave way and wired me cold hard cash. so even if you insurer tries the vouchers thing - it's worth persisting.

Take care of it.
A used MXL frame went for 900 quid last week.
Wow - thanks for the link. Yeah, that's def the same frame. I had a feeling I'd got something of a bargain (ebay.fr, €400 inc lots of campy kit and nice wheels)

it's a rather large 58cm apparently. i'm 6"3 and moved the seat about 1" higher than shown to suit my gangly pins.
@sparky - no thanks.

morning all. pretty new to this, so interested to see what people have to say. bought this at the weekend:
http://i36.tinypic.com/1pwa2w.jpg
it's a 2000 Merckx - I think it's the MX Leader but minus the decals. got the Merckx (panto'd?) logo in all the right places and some lovely lugs. Pretty unbelievable condition - got it from France and they know how to cherish their bikes over there.
Campy Chorus throughout, campy hubs with nice Ambrosio Excellence rims.
planning on going fixed on it (that's puppy killing, right?) and need - as a priority - to lose the saddle and hideous bar tape.
would also be interested to know what people think this bike would be worth.... -
afternoon all.
new here - thought you might enjoy this

Bumpity bump - we had to get another bike and there's now really no room in the shed. The Rudi hasn't been ridden since I last posted and I'd really like to shift it. I took it out to clean the cobwebs off and for a run around the block to check it was all working fine - it's a lovely ride and really needs to get some use now!
I'd take £200 collected to shift it.
