i am responsible for all the shite on the roads
lycra for fat men, dayglo clothing, hybrid bikes, single speed front brake only, women's 1 ton bikes made of lead, shit old bikes that no one realises were shit when they came out but just because they have not fallen apart are now venerated by hipsters as classics, i have a factory of malnourished crippled 3rd world children who make BSO's by day and service 3rd world sex tourists by night, i masterminded foffa, swagger and caramel bikes, sold drugs to Tom Simpson, refused to sell drugs to Wiggo, drove a car into a peleton of cyclists in Mexico, made helmets compuslory in Australia, failed to make helmets comulsory in the UK, started the glossy pics of girls on bike thread etc etc
there is more but that is just a starter

To be honest, I think people are perfectly entitled to charge what they think their product deserves, if it doesn't sell, it doesn't sell! Then he'll have to rethink how much hes charging and if anyone does purchase from him well I guess they're the ones making the mistake at this moment in time.
Perhaps, but if a person is selling unsafe, or overpriced products, within an online community like this. That's when it's maybe not ok. Is it not a function of the community to vet the characters using it as a means to promote and facilitate their business dealings. And does said community not reserve the right to reject/control these advances in the interest of the user?
because it is a capitalist activity being attempted in a capitalist society. He is not exactly the only person to sell something for profit rather than living and breathing the product
Well yeah, exactly.

I read that the prices are not official, but just "shop front" however is it not simply opportunistic, if someone contacted him and said "yah sweet bike look good, £450 I'll take it" can't imagine him replying "ah well, it's actually less $$$, that's not actual price"
I admit I had scanned the thread, I hadn't read your post about meeting him in person, so if indeed he is a nice chap and trying to make an honest job of it, fair play to him. I guess he has incurred the wrath of the forum, but it is not entirely undeserved. Of course he should be given the chance to show he's not just an opportunist out to take advantage, and I hope he does this. I guess the old terms "2 ears, 1 mouth" and "baby steps first" could come in handy whilst developing his catalogue, and he may prove successful.
But for me it does beg the question, why enter a market place where you have limited knowledge... which would suggest limited passion for the products. just makes no sense, if you live and breathe bikes, build bikes. if not, then why do it?

The deal is you need to charge that if you are trying to make money out of it. That should be all you need to know to realise selling that product is a non starter - unless of course people actually buy them.
Seems there are peoples..!
I kinda meant where do they get off selling these suspect bikes to unsuspecting customers.(yeah they should know better) Underhanded though it seems.

I have to say when I first built a fixed bike I tried riding with some meaty bear traps for a few days - was nervous about being connected to pedals that were flying around relentlessly. down hills were really a challenge at this point...
Boy was I wronggg!!! as soon as I tried it with my spds it opened up a whole new way of riding. If you've ever snow boarded this is what I compare it to. you can throw your bike around, skip it to check your speed.... you feel connected, i mean. You're missing out, really. i know you can't ride like that without retention. the fact that scoble offered to send you clip & strap as well.... why not give it a try, and then see what you've been missing?
it's not going to cost you anyhing, and you don't even have to admit that you like it, when you inevitably do.

Cut a line and peel off. It's a way of making the grip really stick, problems arose with other methods if riding in the wet etc, as all are affected by moisture. Obvously if you're someone that changes grips all the time laquer is not best method, but say you use grips till they wear out, then it's fine. I found some grips better than others though, some I had I put on with an air gun like you suggest and they never shifted, others I tried everything (even washing in between) and laquer was only thing that held.

It's a really good read, not just the story (which is great) but the way it's presented.
What is it about it you're not keen on? Have you read his other books? gonna try this mr Y book then probably have a pop at de zoet. May have to read the latest dan brown too, purely to see if there is an albino bad guy, and if the mastermind is a father figure to the main character...
