As you may have seen in the 'Stolen Bikes' Thread, I happened across my Dolan a few weeks back, that was pinched at the end of Oct 11.
Same wheels, chainset.
Different Stem Bars Seatpost and Saddle.
The guy who had it says he paid 400 for it last year.
The police have consulted their 'lawyers' and won't release it to either of us until a judge rules, as apparently he has as much claim to it as me.
Would really prefer that it didn't just sit and rot out the back of the station, but am struggling to get any firm legal opinion.
Anyone got any advice or able to point me in the right direction?
Re whether its worth engaging a lawyer, is it small claims?
Bit lost with it all.

Looking like I'm not going to complete the build now, does anyone have any interest in the wheels (with pretty much brand new cassette) before they go off to the bay?
Rigida DP18 rims to Campagnolo Hubs 36H £80 seem reasonable?
Thought these hubs might be Chorus (but from research looks like chorus always had a grease port) so thinking they may be Athena
Come with Campag Skewers, front non-release side has a some chrome missing
Loads of life in the breaking surface.
Both run smooth, rear could do with a truing.
Cassette is virtually brand new and chorus.
Collection from Stoke Newington, but can meet within reason with a bit of notice.
If no interest in the next few days, will withdraw.

The original police report covered all the main points.
Custom wheels with and weird offset radial lacing on the front, weird chipping on headtube from previous owner, etc etc.
Guy handling it even brought up the report and asked me about the phil sprocket, quick wipe off of grease and hey presto there it was.
I've offered additional stuff when first dealing with it, but not sure whats happening now, believe are sargeant is being asked.

yeah bit baffled tbh. if he's bought it from 'someone online' he can't even have a receipt and surely paid cash, so how can it be proved....
what gets me is they opened and shut the case and didn't inform me until now.
oh and turns out stupid honest me pointing out the shitty bars and post were added after it was nicked didn't help. Even though my initial report states different ones.

Dolan Precursa Update/Advice sought:
So, its looking like Stokeys finest have opened then shut the case.
Just had a call basically informing me that as far as they can tell, he has legitimate ownership, as do I.
So, the option is to try and reach an agreement (he speaks barely a word of English - not fascist, just not sure how I'd go about communicating with the guy) or possibly go to court and fight it out.
The five-oh that called said in essence the guy should be chasing up the seller to get a refund. Well that also seems unlikely really doesn't it.
The saga continues.......

Whitebait, mine was found with blue post, risers and stem (all added after I had it taken)
You talking about one with HPlus SL42s and Miche Primato hubs (all silver)?
If so, how come/ Its supposed to be locked up at Stoke Newington five-oh
Phil721, not sure, gave up riding fixed shortly after it went. But maybe getting it back will up my laze-to-excecise ratio. Will drop you a PM if selling though

cheers jv.
I understand the receipt point everyone is making. but there are reasons/excuses the seller could've made, I don't think I can produce a receipt for the frame, only reference buying it online with posts/ebay records etc (which I know constitute proof of purchase)
From what I gathered, the guy was providing the details of where/who he bought and collected it from.
Hoping other people on the thread have similar luck finding their steeds

Many many pages back, you'll see I was mugged for my Dolan at the end of October 2011 on Roman Road late at night.
After searching for weeks online, staking out brick lane and going round to all the bike shops, I gave up looking.
Today, I saw it locked up in Stokey, with same wheels and even phil sprocket.
Unfortunately, it looks like the poor sod who had it actually paid 'non-stolen' price for it. Assuming he's telling the truth, I feel very sorry for him.
The police are being very helpful, guess I was lucky there also, he seemed to have trouble getting any assistance from his co-workers.
So, even though its been a few bikes since, I guess the moral is to keep your eyes peeled not matter what and know that on occasion (as rare as it may be) the karmic bike gods will eventually help you out.

thats what I don't get gereonb, yeah I don't have anything but eBay to back up purchase.
But, I have the original police report (knife point mugging not lock cut) and the frae has some very distinctive gouges in the headtube and I had the wheels built (front has a weird offset radial and rear still has my phil spocket on it)
Have emailed the PC in charge again, offering to take the 'not mine' parts off. If not, guess its lawyer time, even though it'll cost more then the bike is worth.
