Hi all,
I bought this a while back from Hillary Stone. It is a gorgeous frame but regrettably not quite right for me. I am looking to get what I paid for it, £236 (including postage). Payment will be via bank transfer and collection from Hackney preferred. The alternative is £225 + postage pending payment.
This will make a gorgeous road bike or ss conversion. Details below.
CHAS ROBERTS ROAD FRAME 1988
Seat Tube (ctt): 58cm (23in)
Top Tube (ctc): 56cm (22in)
Rear dropout width: 126mm
Wheel size: 700C
Seatpost size: 27.2mm
Frame Tubing: Reynolds 700
This Chas Roberts road frame for the Ti-Reynolds stand at the 1988. Cologne cycle show and was built from Reynolds 700 tubing with spiral ribs with Cinelli lugs and Cinelli spoiler bottom bracket shell. Chas has sent me an email confirming this history. Because it was a special show frame to show off the new Reynolds tubing I would think it highly likely that Chas himself built this frame. It has been repainted and not used since - the lacquar has yellowed a little especially near the BB. And there are are couple of small scrapes to the paint on the forks. However this is really a rather special frame which will look superb once built up. It would make a very straightforward fixed/singlespeed conversion. -

road bike geometry is generally considered more comfortable for road riding than track geometry, mainly because it's designed to be. the fact it's a road frame isn't why it should be built properly, it's because it's a hand-built frame built by one of the most respected framebuilders in the country/world.
there's also the problem that anyone who's been into cycling for over 20 minutes will take one look at you riding fixed on a classic frame like that and think "what a tool". also the fact that you spent £225 on a frame, having never built a bike before may also make people think "what a rich tool".
tl;dr: BUILT NICELY WITH GEARS PLEASE
Rich tool is not the look I was going for! Frame arrives today, i'll consider either gears or selling it on as there is a genuine 'Roberts' who is interested. I currently ride on a track frame so may be worthwhile getting another one for this new build instead of perverting a classic road frame with my filthy fixed gear ideas, Teenslain how many bikes do you have by the way!
